We don’t veer too much from our “tried and true” patterns, but the Clever Charlotte, Finch Top and Shorts was a pattern we had been anxious to sew for a while!

We knew our niece would like the style of the top for the summer, and that it would be completely different than many of the garments we typically sew for her.

The Clever Charlotte, Finch Top and Shorts ranges in size from 2T to 8.

For the top, we sewed EA a size 7 and added 1.5 inches to the length. She wears her shorts/pants/skirts so low, we always like to allow for a little more coverage in that area . . .just to be safe!

One of the best parts of this pattern is THE ACCENT BUTTON! Someone could design / plan an entire outfit around one particular button!

We didn’t. Instead, we were looking for something to make with the fabric used for the top. It had been in our stash for entirely too long, and we needed to either use it . . .or lose it.

Technically, you could sew the dress with a large bow on the shoulder. But, we opted for the large button instead!

The shorts were made with a remnant piece from our stash as well. We had previously used the fabric for a skirt, and had just enough left to sew the shorts.

The shorts were also sewn as a size 7, but should have been sewed as a 6. They were extremely loose and baggy on EA.

The details of the shorts, however, set them apart from other, basic shorts. And they, too, have a spot for a couple of accent buttons!

We still consider this pattern to be a cute one, and one that we would sew again {PSST: we already have}  . . . after taking careful measurements to insure proper sizing for our nieces.
