Pattern Testing, Plus…Butterfly Creation #1

So, we pattern tested for one of Liesl’s newest patterns – the Butterfly Blouse and Skirt {you can read more about it HERE}…

Oliver + S: Butterfly Blouse and Skirt

To say we were EXCITED would be putting it mildly!!

Oliver + S: Butterfly Blouse and Skirt

Everything was mailed to us – the pattern…the fabric…even the notions! One of the most exciting parts of the experience {besides seeing the pattern for the first time} was seeing Liesl’s fabrics and styling combination for the different views.

Oliver + S: Butterfly Blouse and Skirt

We sewed two samples and did some proofreading as we went along…probably driving her crazy in the process!

Then, after shipping those beauties to New York, it was time to sew a few of our own for the nieces.

YEP…a few.

Oliver + S: Butterfly Blouse and Skirt

That then turned into more than anticipated….

First up – CL’s Butterfly Blouse and Skirt {fondly referred to as her “toothbrush outfit” since the blouse fabric looks like toothbrushes}…

Oliver + S: Butterfly Blouse and Skirt

We sewed the peach skirt twice. The first version fit EA instead of CL. Lucky EA!! Thankfully, the skirt is a quick, easy-peasy sew….as in, we can sew one in an evening! That’s a record for us, and something we’ve rarely experienced with any pattern. Watch out KCW!!

Oliver + S: Butterfly Blouse and Skirt

So, we adjusted…sized down…and re-sewed another for CL. The 2nd skirt sewn for CL is a 12-18 mo, although she is 2 1/2 years old, and fits her much better!

Please note: Hip measurement is extremely important in getting a correct fit!! That, and length…

Oliver + S: Butterfly Blouse and Skirt

Our nieces wear their pants, shorts, and skirts SOOOO LOW, it was something to keep in mind while we sewed {especially with the “above the knee” style of this skirt}.

Oliver + S: Butterfly Blouse and Skirt

The blouse is a 2T, and has a little room to grow. We sewed view A {angel sleeves} for her – modifying the original pattern slightly by lining the sleeves and adding a pop of piping to the edge.

CL loved her new clothes, and felt pretty special in them…

Oliver + S: Butterfly Blouse and Skirt

In a few days, we will share EA’s garments {that included a little St. Patrick’s Day “don’t get pinched” emergency sewing!}…And yes, through it all, we learned a few other gems about sewing this pattern…

Oliver + S: Butterfly Blouse and Skirt

Let’s leave it as: we broke “norm”, and the results just might surprise you!!

If you like what you see, PLEASE…..
