When we agreed to teach a few sewing classes this past winter, we were most excited about this one: REVERSE APPLIQUE!!
The possibilities are endless when thinking about reverse applique . . . especially for people like us that don’t applique.
We’ve sewn a few creations for CL using this technique {HERE, HERE, HERE} and have always been pleased with the outcome.
We began with the Children’s Corner, Lucy, sewn in a size 5. We sewed the dress in a navy, buffalo plaid that was cut on the bias.
Then, we added a hot air balloon reverse applique to it.
Mini ric-rac was used for the ropes, and a woven, reverse applique was used for the basket {using the same fabric as the main dress}.
Again, it seems we should have added some length to the finished dress, but the good thing about the Lucy is it can be worn as a tunic easily.
So, that’s exactly what CL did . . . and looked as cute as a button, if we do say so ourselves!
We are already planning another class using this technique, but plan to use circles for the reverse applique.
That will give our class members several times to practice this technique before turning them loose to creatively continue on their own!
Adorable! Love the reverse applique. I have the Lucy and think I will try it the technique spring with a bunny.
That is adorable! I love reverse applique, and the woven part for the basket is particularly fun!
