Some outfits are just more special than others . . .
and this one might fall into that category.
You see, while cleaning out the basement a few years ago, a bag of our Great-Grandmother’s sewing supplies was found . . . primarily a bag full of LOTS of buttons.
We washed the buttons, and schemed possible uses for the treasures!
The possibilities are endless . . .
The Oliver + S, Family Reunion Dress is a perfect opportunity to use a very special button.
We LOVE this pattern, and the lines of it . . .
and have sewn it a few times in the past {HERE, HERE, and HERE}
So, we sewed a size 6 using some destash fabric with some Liberty accents and “the special button.”
The liberty print and button matched so well together . . .
we were tickled with the results.
Don’t you just love it when a vision comes together, and the results match your expectations?!?!?
Please note: The hair was “styled” by a certain 7 year old . . . and man, does she have a lot!
Some battles aren’t worth the fight – all in the name of blog pictures . . .
This is beautiful! I love this pattern and this is my favorite of all your renditions, as the solid fabric and accents really show the lovely lines and details of the pattern. I have balked at sewing this for my granddaughters, but you’ve convinced me to go for it! Is the sizing a bit larger than many patterns? My girls are 9 but skinny, and I usually have to go down in sizing width. The button is perfect! I’ve built whole outfits around buttons :). Thank you for sharing!
You MUST give it a go! You’re right, the details are FABULOUS! As a general rule, we need to size down and add length (we sewed a 6, and she is 7.5 years old), but compare their measurements to the measurement chart. We have found that even though our niece measures more than one size smaller, she often needs the width through her shoulders.
Beautiful dress, wonderful story, and an adorable niece!
Thanks!!
I’ve only sewn one of them, but I think this is my favorite Oliver+S pattern! I really like the button and trim!
Well, it needs to make your “to sew” list! Thank you!
