Did the forecast call for rain today?!?!? Someone was prepared, yet no drops fell!

Made by Rae’s Small World Fabric “had us at HELLO!” when it was released.

We had sewn a backpack using one of the designs, and then waited. And waited. And waited on the umbrellas. . .

The burning question: What to sew?!?!?

We decided to use it in our “fabric destashing”  and sewed an Oliver + S, Book Report Dress: ANOTHER pattern destash . . . and an Oliver + S pattern we had yet to sew.

We sewed a size 6, with an additional 1.5″ added to sleeve length.

Hindsight: we should have added more length to the hem, in order to make a “deeper hem” than called for {5/8″ hem for curved hemline . . . but we straightened ours}.

The hardest part of this project was fabric alignment. The umbrellas were printed crooked on the corduroy grain line. So, if you tried to line up the grain line, the umbrellas were tilted at a diagonal. We attempted to keep the umbrellas level, thus making our corduroy slant. It was a frustrating sew, to say the least.

When it was all said and done, we were pleased with the horizontal alignment of the umbrellas near the “secret pockets” {as EA likes to call them, although these aren’t nearly as neat as her “secret pocket dresses” – HERE and HERE}.

A few special details to note: The cuffs were piped, as well as the back yoke.

Also, the pockets were made using the same fabric as the cuffs . . .thus, solidifying fabric selection a bit more, and creating a completely unique outfit – all EA’s own!

Rain, or no rain, it definitely brings a ray of sunshine to an otherwise dreary day . . .
