This dress has been in the works for quite some time . . .
As in, A SOLID YEAR!
You’d never guess it, though, given its “simplistic” nature.
We were supposed to sew it last winter, yet prior to beginning the project we realized we would need to purchase the pattern‘s larger size range.
So, we put the project on pause.
The good news is: Although our initial plans were delayed, our sewing preferences have remained constant!
And, since we had recently sewn a Christmas dress using this same pattern, we were confident in the size / fit of this particular garment.
The wide-wale corduroy was turned perpendicular on the pockets and placket area for a subtle difference.
Due to the thickness of the corduroy, cream broadcloth was used for the collar’s lining and the hemline.
Liberty bias was used on the collar and cuffs. The sleeves were cut 1″ shorter than specified, and then finished with a bias band of liberty at the edge.
Liberty was also used on the pocket bands and placket area. We created width by sewing two pieces together.
Our source for Liberty bias is an Etsy store {HERE} that has some pretty good prices! So, if you want a touch of liberty at a fraction of the cost, it would be worth your time to go and check it out!
Currently, EA LOVES dresses and would wear them every day – if her wardrobe allowed it!
You won’t hear these aunts complain . . . Dresses are “one hit wonders” {and don’t require multiple sewn pieces to accompany them}!!
Our only problem is keeping up with this growing girl!

The simplicity of this dress is definitely the winning feature. I love the Liberty accents and should probably do that with some of the Liberty fabrics I have (I’ve never used a single piece)! Hope you both are doing well, and I’m glad to see you back at sewing/blogging again some. I’m far behind in the blogging end of things!
We just can’t seem to keep up these days . . . Yes, you need to delve into your Liberty stash. We are a bit addicted to adding small Liberty accents to otherwise plain outfits. It helps us justify the cost . . .
So lovely! I want one in my size.
I love this dress! I am all about simple lines with great accents/details..and that liberty piping does the trick
You’ve done it again! I am now desperately in need of this pattern, even though I haven’t had a chance to sew up the other Oliver+S patterns that your lovely creations inspired me to buy! Love the corduroy, love the Liberty accents. Beautiful job. =)
You’re so sweet, Charity!! The other view of this dress pattern is amazing . . . and what made us purchase it to begin with! You are in essence getting 2 completely different dresses with this pattern.
That’s done it! I am DEFINITELY sewing view B in corduroy this autumn/winter. This dress is every kind of perfect!
Awww, thanks!! We really, really, really like this pattern . . .
That is so pretty and classic looking. The Liberty bias is a great finish.
Thanks Stacy! We like a lot of fabrics, but more often than not – go for the plain, simple, and classic.
