We know, we know . . .
This garment is completely out of season.
Yet to our defense, the temps over the weekend ranged from 68 – 72 F.
Thus, a perfect opportunity for a little photoshoot / fit session.
We hadn’t sewn the Family Reunion Dress since EA was a toddler {seen HERE and HERE} . . . so, this “sew” was LONG OVERDUE!
We bought the fabric {Yuwa Live Life Collection, made in Japan} during our trip to the Children’s Corner Store last spring, and cut it out for sewing over the summer.
Sewing has slowed down, and we’ve just recently finished the dress.
It’s another good fit for now . . . but wish there were more growing room that would prolong the life of the outfit.
Yet again, we are so thankful we have two other nieces waiting in the “homemade-me-down” wings.
For now, though, our dress-loving niece EA will enjoy the newness of the creation . . . as well as hope for warmer days ahead to wear it once more!
As for us, we have turned our attention to CHRISTMAS SEWING!! And, the clock is ticking . . .
It makes me very happy to see your niece’s smile. She has been through (and probably still is in) such a hard part of her life and I’m glad that she has those happy moments with her aunts. I hope you all are feeling better and have found a new rhythm. We all haven’t forgotton about your and your sister’s big loss. Still thinking of you!
Thank you, Annika . . . for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful, heartfelt comment!! We cherish our blogging community friendships worldwide . . .
So nice to see her smile I second Annika’s comment. The dress turned out gorgeous. Yellow piping was definitely the right choice. Younger siblings will enjoy wearing this dress in the future I am sure
Absolutely on the siblings . . . and, the girls are finding joy in the smallest of things, each and every day {and in turn, make us smile too} . . .
WOW – that is just lovely – I was looking at that pattern but now that I see it on a lovely young lady my daughter’s age I am inspired! The piping makes the dress can hardly wait to give this one a spin for my daughter’s spring wardrobe! (Already too cold in New England for short sleeves) Many thanks for all the lovely creations and tips you share. Happy holidays to your entire family. It has been a tough one for ours this year too.
Thanks, Liza! We are enjoying the mildest December in years!! So sorry to hear that you’ve been in a valley . . . praying for you and yours.
My thoughts exactly. She is such a beautiful child and you’ve photographed her so well. She truly looks joyous and carefree in these pictures. What a gift!
The dress is divine too – anyone else’s sewing might be trumped by the gorgeous model!
Thank you! And, yes . . . her joy is a gift to all of us!!
Such a sweet dress and just perfect for our Southern “Fall”. I have this pattern, wanting to make it for my granddaughters, but am a bit concerned about fit for my skinny ones. Does it run large through the shoulders and neck? Thank you for sharing!
EA isn’t very broad through her shoulders and neck either. Yes, it is roomier in that area {we sewed her a size 4, and she is 5}. However, the middle niece, CL, is wearing an 18 month size of this pattern {and she is almost 3 1/2}. There may be more of a differential with the younger sizes {?}. Maybe?
It’s adorable. Family Reunion was my first Oliver + S and still my favorite. My daughter wore hers for well over 2 years as a dress then tunic over leggings – and she hates long sleeves so she wore it year round. I bet EA will love hers for a long time!
NEAT!! And, very true on the wearability of the garment!!
What a lovely dress! The yellow accents are really sweet with the fabric. I just bought this pattern recently and am looking forward to making it once things aren’t quite so busy around here. =)
EA is looking very sweet and grown up. =)
Did you take advantage of the O+S digital sale?? We did . . . too, too much {since EA is about to move into the next pattern size}!
Yes, I did! But I managed to limit myself to only three patterns… and hopefully I get those sewn up by this time next year! =)
