A Summer Dress {Oliver + S, Pinwheel Dress}

Oliver + S, Pinwheel Dress

Okay, okay….the title probably should have read: A Summer Dress…That is Technically a Slip!

Oliver + S, Pinwheel Dress

That’s right!! We just completed a “first sew” for us, using the Oliver + S Pinwheel Tunic + Slip Dress. We only sewed the slip dress portion of the pattern however, and created a sweet, summer dress for EA.

Oliver + S, Pinwheel Dress

You might have noticed we’ve been on a blue theme for her this summer, as seen here and here. It really wasn’t planned, but each of these fabrics were bought on the same shopping trip.

Oliver + S, Pinwheel Dress

Do you do that? Buy a particular color scheme….without realizing it until afterwards??

Oliver + S, Pinwheel Dress

A few summers ago, we ended up with several oranges and khakis on one on of our trips. If you don’t believe us….check out these creations {here, here, and here} to see what we mean.

Oliver + S, Pinwheel Dress

Anyway, we digress….back to the Pinwheel.

Oliver + S, Pinwheel Dress

We sewed EA a size 4, with no modifications/alterations to view B {the slip dress}. As you can see, she has some wiggle room….

Oliver + S, Pinwheel Dress
Well, make that: LOTS of wiggle room.

And, it’s sure to be too short to wear before she outgrows it in the yoke area. But, this child isn’t complaining!!

Oliver + S, Pinwheel Dress

She skipped…she hopped…she spun in this dress. We REALLY need to get a video of “the skip”…it’s classic, and done with such vim and vigor…

Oliver + S, Pinwheel Dress

The dress was a success!! And, such a quick sew to be successful!

Oliver + S, Pinwheel Dress

While it does make a sweet, summer sundress, don’t you think it could be sewn as a swimsuit cover-up or a summer nightgown? There are no closures to the slip dress, making it perfectly child-friendly for easy dressing / changing. EA is very independent, and she likes the freedom this outfit gives her.

We are keeping those other options in mind as we look for opportunities to sew this pattern again!

Gorgeous. I’d be happy with an all blue summer wardrobe. I’d be extra happy with some of your weather right now! It is a swingy, generous fit isn’t it, but so nice to have a dress with no closures that they can put on themselves. Glad she likes it so much!

Ooooh, so very sorry you are in the winter months. BOOO!!! And, yes….we tend to sew with more blue than pink…

Ooh nice! She looks very content! My pinwheel had a lot of ease too! I’d also love an all blue wardrobe.

Blue = calm and serene {although it appears to be having the opposite effect in these photos}.

Sweet dress, you cannot go wrong with blue in summer :) You reminded me that I need to take video of my daughter skipping and hopping, while she still does that!

What a cool and comfortable dress! A perfect summer sundress. I love the blue, especially on EA with that gorgeous blonde hair. I like the nightgown idea using this pattern, too.

Well, why wouldn’t you pick lots of blue when it looks so beautiful on EA? =) I love the flounce on this!
