September Showcase: The Sunny Dress

WOW, WOW, WOW!! We HONESTLY can’t get over the OVERWHELMING RESPONSE to the “September Showcase” ….AND…the fun has just begun! Have you feasted your eyes on the all of the amazing creations linked up in the linky party?? PHENOMENAL!!! Seriously, PHENOMENAL!!

SewVery: Sunny Dress {sewn by Frances Suzanne}

And, then, how about some other “Rising Indie Designers” jumping on board and offering a discount code too?? WOWZERS! Check out the comment section on the linky party for links and more information!! Who knows?? There may be more to come before the month’s end!!

Today, we wanted to share a newly released pattern….A FIRST PATTERN….by a dear friend {sewing / blogging / “real life” friend} – Veronica, of SewVery! What an absolute HONOR to be kicking off this showcase with the Sunny Dress…

You see, we have a running joke around our house about some “necessity sewing” each and every Fall, using a specified color combination. Think: college football, “SEC style.” But, we have to be a bit more “sly” than calling it as it is {our nieces live in a “divided house”}…..thus, the term “fall fabric” is used. We’ve made a couple of “fall fabric” outfits through the seasons, as seen here and here.

SewVery: Sunny Dress {sewn by Frances Suzanne}

But, what does that have to do with our friend, Veronica?? Well, Veronica loves herself some orange and blue too…..It’s her alma mater, for crying out loud! What better way to support her and showcase the Sunny Dress pattern than with a little “fall fabric” love??

SewVery: Sunny Dress {sewn by Frances Suzanne}

We made a few MINOR flips to the Sunny Dress. The most obvious one was to add two “knotted” pockets, using the Bonnie Blue, Shelby Kate pattern as a design.

SewVery: Sunny Dress {sewn by Frances Suzanne}

We reworked the ties slightly – making them wider to attach to the front of the dress, cutting them so they could be lined {for accent fabric to “peak through”} instead of folded in half, and rounding out the ends to match the “knotted” pockets. The pop of color from the bow really seems to set off this look….especially when viewed from the back.

Then, we added a little accent fabric as a bias trim around the base of the dress. This complimented the pocket lining, as well as the lining of the straps.

We sewed a size 3T, with 4T length and while it fits fine for now, hindsight tells us we might should have sewn the 4T, as is. Still, it should get us through some warm weather months and a little “football season” action before it is said and done!

The Sunny Dress is a quick and easy sew. It leaves a lot of self-expression to the sewist….accessorizing at will, making it seasonally appropriate, etc.

Our only recommendation to those preparing to sew this pattern: Don’t print out the directions {if you have the means to view it on a laptop, ipad, etc., go that route!!}. Since Veronica is EXTREMELY thorough in her directions and photographs of the process, it makes a paper copy version of the directions quite lengthy. Of course, we’d take “thorough” any day over the other extreme, wouldn’t you :)!?!?

Veronica is offering the Sunny Dress at 20% off {discount code: SHOWCASE} from now until September 20! She also has thrown in a copy for someone to win in the “September Showcase Giveaway” {enter to win below…}!!

Oh, and since she couldn’t leave her pattern alone – she “flipped” it….just for fun! Check out what she did HERE!!

So, there you have it: a Sunny Dress, using “fall fabric”, that someone was PRETTY EXCITED to add to her wardrobe!!

But, wait…..THERE’S MORE! This little beauty met us as we returned to the house, stating “My turn now!” Yes, baby, it sure is!! How could one refuse a face like that?? We wouldn’t dream of it!!

A Style of Her Own

CL got all dolled up for her own special photo shoot – complete with her bucket hat, princess dress, ummm….make that layered princess dressES, and a neon tutu as an underskirt.

A Style of Her Own

Yep…PRICELESS! She found various places to ‘pose,’ even showing the back of her ensemble for the rest of the world to see.

A Style of Her Own

LOVE HER….and her big sister…..and her little sister to pieces!!

I absolutely love this {ahem} “Fall” version of the Sunny Dress! Those pockets and the contrast print peeking out on the straps are perfection! Thank you so much for choosing my first pattern to kick-off your September Showcase. I’m very honored and thrilled to have my pattern be a part of your collection now.

As a side note to your comment about printing out the instructions, you can always print two pages per sheet or in booklet form, and yes, I believe you can never have enough details!

Now CL and the baby need matching “Fall” outfits, don’t you think? Go FALL! (and War Eagle, too!)

War Eagle! I didn’t know Veronica was an alum! I am not, but my uncle, grandparents, and one of my great-grandparents all are! I knew the fight song as tiny tot, too.

I live the knotted pockets on the dress and the contrast at the bottom. Beautiful, classy, and subtle!

    Oh, yes! My entire family is, with the exception of my husband who is an alum of the other school in Alabama!

Good thing we are technically still in SEC country…it keeps the Fall interesting even if the team we cheer for is a moot point in the whole shebang. Love the dress though…perfect for layering with a turtleneck and leggings for the chilly night games!
