If you are visiting from Oliver and S and the “Favorite Oliver and S Pattern” series, WELCOME!! We hope you like what you see, and stay for a while.
For this little ensemble, we opted to combine two Oliver and S patterns to make an outfit: the Swingset Tunic and Puppet Show Shorts.
Hot, summer days in the South require the appropriate attire to survive the heat!
In retrospect, this summer has been extremely mild….and truthfully, we’d take the heat and humidity any day over frigid, cold conditions.
We had splurged on some Liberty fabric about a year and a half ago, and finally found the perfect use for it.
We’ve definitely made the most of our splurge – constructing a Swingset Tunic, Puppet Show Shorts, and a Puppet Show Dress – each, showcasing this lovely fabric.
EA loves her summery tunic….now, if only we could get her to wear her shorts at an appropriate waist area.
We sewed a size 3T in the Swingset Tunic, but lengthened it to a size 4 length.
Of course, no garment is complete without our “signature piping detail”! This little detail accentuated the curved yoke brilliantly!!
The Puppet Show Shorts were sewn, as is, in a size 3T and still have ample growing room for EA.
Now, we just need to find the perfect pattern to pair with a “winterized” pair of Puppet Show Shorts….
Taking ideas and suggestions….NOW!

Those are so cute! I love that combo of patterns too! I’ve seen the puppet show sorts made out of corduroy and paired with cable knit tights and mary jane shoes for an adorable winter look for these shorts. I’m planning that myself for my twin girls for this fall/winter.
That DOES sound cute!! Thanks for the ideas….
Hi AWKs; you could try the 2+2 top with the shorts – especially if you make the top from pinwale cord – which I have done -see my photostream. The other thought I had was; have you tried the Book Report Dress – one of my favourites. And of course, there is the Sailboat top to go with longish shorts.
I’m sure you two will come up with something!!
Hmmmm, haven’t sewn the Book Report yet!!! Something to keep in mind…
Liberty fabric plus white and piping…. gets me every time! This is a lovely combination!
I’m not a huge fan of winterized shorts, but I do think the Oliver and S Sunday Brunch Jacket would work well with them.
I like your thought process!!!
