The Recipe for a Great Evening

A few weeks ago, we had the privilege and pleasure of meeting some blogging buddies – in person! And what was the “drawing card” for everyone to converge at a specified place at a predetermined time??  None other than the amazingly talented Lindsay Wilkes, aka “The Cottage Mama” {seen below with her fabulous instructional assistant for the week….Terri}!! Lindsay was teaching classes at the Martha Pullen School of Fashion for the week, so a group of us pulled off an informal get-together in the middle of the festivities….
What other creative ladies were in attendance??? RaeAnna {Sewing Mama RaeAnna}, Veronica {sewVery}, Emily {Frances Suzanne}, Christine {sew many ruffles}, Chelle {luv to sew}, Sally {daisy-chaincreations}, Ashley {Frances Suzanne}, Lindsay {The Cottage Home} and Terri {Lindsay’s right hand woman} completed the recipe for the perfect evening!
The summation of the evening: talking, shopping, talking, eating, and talking, talking, talking some more!!! You get the picture???
Have you ever wondered how various words taken from Webster’s Dictionary would translate to a dictionary specifically geared for sewists and bloggers?!?! NO??? Well, you’re about to get our take on a few words – like it or not….

THE {completely fictional} SEWING ENTHUSIAST DICTIONARY:

PLAN {Webster}: a method worked out in advance for achieving some objective
PLAN {Sewing Enthusiast}: thinking about a possible get-together months in advance, only to line something up a few days prior to the actual get-together – after multiple emails, and some ‘party crashing’ of others’ previously laid plans…

ADDICTION {Webster}: a compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance
ADDICTION {Sewing Enthusiast}: The strong desire for conversing with those of similar likes and interests. *Thanks a lot, Jess {me sew crazy}…..your GNO events created this monster…We can’t get enough of these sorts of get-togethers!

BARGAIN {Webster}: an advantageous purchase
BARGAIN {Sewing Enthusiast}: fabric at $2 a yard; Liberty marked down; and $2 Oliver and S Patterns!! Are you kidding us?!?! *Buyer’s remorse = not buying more for giveaways/gifts…

EDUCATION {Webster}: the action or process of educating or of being educated
EDUCATION {Sewing Enthusiast}: listening to amazingly creative, talented ladies discuss projects, plans, and ideas for the future…

INSIGHT {Webster}: the power or act of seeing into a situation
INSIGHT {Sewing Enthusiast}: sneak peeks of future patterns/projects about to be released….*and, FYI: Lindsay’s book, Sew Classic Clothes for Girls: 20 Girls’ Dresses, Outfits and Accessories from the Cottage Mama {to be released this October….pre-orders beginning next month}, is on our must-buy list after seeing the fantastic creations displayed outside her classroom at the Martha Pullen School of Fashion. If you’d like to know more about Lindsay’s teaching experience {aka: “touching story” alert}, be sure to visit her blog.
SOCIABLE {Webster}: an informal social gathering frequently involving a special activity or interest

SOCIABLE {Sewing Enthusiast}: an informal social gathering frequently involving a special activity or interest with NO LACK of conversation, well into the evening hours….and then, when attempting to disperse {on numerous occasions}, the conversation picks right back up!

CAMARADERIE {Webster}: a spirit of friendly good-fellowship
CAMARADERIE {Sewing Enthusiast}: a spirit of friendly good-fellowship – virtual, or face to face – all while feeling as if you’ve known someone your entire life!

What a fabulous evening….from beginning to end {*plus a little sneak peek of our ‘spoils’}!!
And since we are on the subject: any future get-togethers we need to know about??

I really want to do a Utah get together, but I am nervous about organizing it. I am at least 90 percent more brave in my online persona than I am in real life. I really do want to do a girls park luncheon this fall with some of the sewing girls in Utah but I am worried about leaving someone out or inviting someone who doesn’t even care to meet me. Wow that is so much honesty that I have thought of deleting this comment. What is your best advice for organizing? I really want to try to be brave because it would be so fun to have friends that understood blogging and sewing.
With Love,
Scary

What a fun write up!!! I’m still thinking about that night, remembering the fun conversation and salivating at the thought of the food.
And Scary, just go for it. It was really a lot of fun

It WAS a lot of fun, wasn’t it??? I don’t know if we can wait until next summer for some fabric shopping with you…. Of course, we’ve got to justify going first! Better get to sewing…

That would be definitely my kind of date!!
Can’t really pick a favorite part: the lovely blogger/sewing friends, the delicious food or the amazing liberty and Oliver+S sale.
I bet you all made the most of your time there :-)
