As we celebrate the birth of our third niece, LG, we’re bringing home a guest post today!
We are so excited about this new addition to our family, we have dubbed the next few weeks as “Celebrate the Baby“…and will be sharing some specific items that we have sewn, JUST FOR HER!! So, if you are needing some “baby inspiration”, or just want to know some handmade essentials we think all babies should have….come back and share in our joy throughout these weeks!

Hello, Mama Says Sew readers!! We are thrilled to be joining you in the “Sewing for Baby” series, and celebrating the arrival of Terra’s newest addition. That….AND the fact we are expecting a new niece in the next month or so…added to our excitement in joining in the fun!
Today, we wanted to share a pattern review with you: The Oliver and S, Lullaby Layette Set {bodysuit portion}.
We sewed the Oliver and S, Lullaby Layette Bodysuit in the 0-3 month size….OUR FIRST TIME TO SEW ANYTHING FOR A NEWBORN {in that size range}.
While we consider this style more of a “bubble” {maybe due to our bubble fetish from years gone – you’ve got to see it to believe it… HERE}, it is technically the bodysuit portion of the 4 patterns included in the Lullaby Layette Set. We had previously sewn the shirt and pants of the set {seen here}, and wanted to have a go at the bodysuit.
Cherie {you and mie} had written a tutorial on adding flutter sleeves to the bodysuit, and we knew we wanted to try it out!
Nothing says femininity more than flutter sleeves, right??
WE LOVE IT….so much in fact, we’ve sewn 3 garments back-to-back with lined {and piped} flutter sleeves. Obsessed much?!?!?
It is doubtful now we would ever make the bodysuit without the flutter sleeve modification – especially for the little girls in our lives.
As for the boys?? Maybe…
This bodysuit isn’t difficult to make, and would be a sweet baby gift for any expectant mothers you might know… It comes together quite easily, and the insides finish like a “professionally made” garment!
Now, the only pattern left in the set we’ve not tried is the reversible jacket….and that just might be on our Fall / Winter sewing list!! Only time will tell…
Congratulations, Terra, on your newest little one….We look forward to following along on her journey in the many “sewing years” ahead!!
**This pattern was given to us, but as always everything written is our honest opinions.
Beautiful! Interested on what fabrics were used as well as piping on sleeves. Nice job!
I have NO IDEA on the polka dot fabric….It was some sort of pique. As for the piping, it was black gingham.
I think I mentioned how much I love this bodysuit…. it’s just perfect for a dainty newborn!
