For the third, and final dress, of the “Fall Family Photo Shoot”, we went out on a ledge and sewed a pattern we had never sewn before. . . . the Children’s Corner, Eleanor.
We have sewn a lot of Children’s Corner patterns, so we felt confident that this pattern would not disappoint.
Children’s Corner patterns are always “on point” for our nieces. The fit, time and time again, is wonderful for each of the nieces.
The classic style of this dress was one that fit our signature style to a tee.
The only thing that didn’t fit our signature style was the back zipper on the view we selected. We don’t like zippers!
We sewed a size 8, view A. The collar was modified – using the Children’s Corner, Jessica {an out of print pattern} size 6 collar as a starting point.
This was in an effort to make the three dresses as cohesive as possible {you can check out the other two dresses HERE and HERE}, not to mention we love, love, love the vintage look and style of the Children’s Corner, Jessica collar.
The modified collar was a nod to the front tab on CL’s Oliver + S, Family Reunion, and the side tabs were a nod to LG’s Children’s Corner, Aprons sash.
We also used the “view B” sleeves so that we could incorporate piping – similar to LG’s Children’s Corner, Aprons dress AND CL’s Oliver + S, Family Reunion dress.
Speaking of piping . . . We piped EVERYWHERE: the collar sections, the tabs, and the sleeves.
Now, for the “pushed for time” downfall . . .
EA tried on the dress after it had been hemmed, and it was WAAAAY too short.
WAAAAAY. TOOOOO. SHORT.
As in: EA’s eyes about popped out of her head . . . and she kept tugging at the dress to have more coverage.
We panicked, and only had a day to “fix the problem.”
Our solution: we took out the hem and added a 1 1/2″ band across the hemline. This increased the dress length 2 1/2″.
While an additional band around the hem was not our original intent, we felt as if it all worked out in the end.
Note to selves {when we sew it again}: ADD. LENGTH.
There you have it – a trio of cohesive dresses . . . for a Fall Family Photo Shoot.
Pleased? You bet!! More than we even imagined . . .
Just perfect! Beautiful girls in beautiful dresses. <3
You ladies nailed the coordinating but not matching sisters outfits! All three are beautiful pieces for their wardrobes and can be worn all season long and into winter with cardigans or jackets. The girls are all so sweetly lovely in these photos. They are growing up!
Yes, they are indeed growing up! Now to pull off some coordinating, but not matching, Easter and spring dress sets . . . we’ve got this, right?!?!
