The internet is just a wealth of knowledge, isn’t it? That . . . along with a wealth of ideas.
About 3 years ago, we saw this creation on Project Run and Play’s sew-along.
Everything about it screamed YES, YES, YES!!
It was THE. BEST. NOD. to the Star Wars original trilogy that we had seen to date, and would be the PERFECT attire for our “Princess Leia Loving Niece!”
So, we made an outfit of our own – using the same resources as the original.
We sewed a Love Notions, Origami Tunic in a size 6. We opted to make the turtleneck version of the pattern with the 3/4 length sleeves.
We weren’t sure if our nieces {or their mom} would like the tunic pattern, but it has quickly become a favorite in the girls’ wardrobes. . . .and has been requested as a “repeat sew” – documenting a definite WIN in our sewing book.
The fur vest was a drafted pattern, using a RTW shirt as a starting point and Suz’s {of SewPony} How to Sew a Faux Fur Tutorial.
There are some helpful hints online when one decides to sew with faux fur. We found that using a razor to cut the fabric on the reverse side was helpful, as well as combing the long fur away from the cut.
Fortunately, CL had a pair of Oliver + S, Playtime Leggings that we had previously sewn.
Hollywood Studios might have been the girls’ “most anticipated day” of the trip! Between completing Jedi Training and seeing Toy Story Land, they were fired up for the day.
Our previous trip to Disney hadn’t included a day at Hollywood Studios, so this was a new adventure for us all!
Unfortunately, we missed seeing the additional Star Wars land by a few months.
The girls didn’t mind! There was plenty of Star Wars action for them to suffice. And all the more reason for us to return!
JEDI TRAINING:
CL took her training the most serious of them all!
This girl meant business when she faced Kylo Ren.
Cape flying.
Wide leg stance.
It was epic!
And, might have even taken Kylo somewhat by surprise . . .
The force is strong with this one . . .
