We are always on the lookout for a sweet, seasonal print – one that is unique from the Christmas attire seen on EVERY. OTHER. CHILD. for the holiday season.
In October, we found just that – a somewhat, seasonal print that we had not seen before . . .and one that, if we play our cards just right, might be worn well into the winter months.
We decided to sew a dress for EA, using some leftover red trim and red buttons from a couple of previous sewing projects.
The red trim is actually a sore point for us. A few years ago, we purchased some more of it from a well-known, reputable, online sewing company only to be charged for it . . .and then, never received the purchase. After multiple emails, requests, etc, we were told that the trim was no longer available. Yet, we were never reimbursed for our purchase, or given store credit to purchase other supplies. While it was approximately a $20 loss, that pales in the frustration and disappointment we had with this business.
EA’s dress is an Oliver + S, Playdate Dress {sewn as a size 8}.
We added 2 1/4″ to the sleeve length, as well as 1 1/2″ to the hem length.
She is long in the arms . . .and tall{er} in stature.
So, when we sew, we make adjustments. Most of the time . . .
We like the simplicity of the pattern AND design selected for this dress.
It isn’t over the top, festive wear . . . and the subtle nature of it, allows a longer season of wearability for our niece.
Now, to keep the red from bleeding into the main fabrics. . .
