EA has been asking to sew a dress. She has previously sewn some skirts, and has done a great job, but to date – no dresses!!
She is a meticulous child . . . almost to a fault at times . . . fearful of making a mistake. Her goal is high: Perfection. No more, no less.
Sewing is good for her! It gives her an avenue to be creative and productive . . . in a safe environment where mistakes WILL happen {she has seen enough of ours in the past}, and seam rippers become one’s best friend.
More often than not, she has good taste in her fabrics and coordinating trims. She carefully plans her garment, and asks for feedback / thoughts about her said plan.
This was the summer of . . . the dress!
Using some fabric and trim we had on hand, EA sewed a size 8, Oliver + S Popover Sundress.
Taking ownership in creating her wardrobe has given her a newfound appreciation to the complete sewing process.
While we know there will be more machine sewing in her future, her current plans involve learning how to cross-stitch, knit, and crochet!
She LOVES learning . . . and creating! Two wonderful attributes for anyone, of any age.
What a gift to be able to pass along your knowledge and skills!!! Beautiful dress and such special memories that are being made!
How cute is this? She did an awesome job!! Wonderful first dress project. So glad she is inspired to keep sewing…
She looks precious! The Popover was my daughter’s first garment, too, last summer when she was 7. It’s a great intro project, with the Oliver&S excellent directions.
Hopefully, she will tackle another sewing project with us this summer! It’s about time to start planning . . .
