We took a shortcut.
Time was of the essence.
Our oldest niece, EA, still loves to wear “fancy dresses” {ie: the ones with smocking and/or lace}! We aren’t exactly sure when that will change . . .but are taking advantage of her desire to wear these dresses.
That said, we had a few dresses sewn – leaving only the smocking {and hemming} for us to complete.
This was one of those dresses. We smocked the mint, Summer Dreams Sundress {Australian Smocking and Embroidery, Issue No. 61} in a size 8.
It’s the perfect, summer sundress . . . in her FAVORITE color too!
We chose subtle, smocking colors – primarily a shade of mint and peach/cream bullions.
She wanted the dress L.O.N.G!! We complied, but not as long as she would have wanted it.
The dress is roomy, so she may have another summer of wear out of it. And, for that, we are THANKFUL!
Crossing our fingers there will be more smocked garments to come for this child before it is said and done . . .
I absolutely love this for an older child! What a great way to incorporate smocking without it looking too fussy.
We agree . . . and as long as she loves these sorts of garments, we want to sew them – keeping them as “age appropriate” as possible.
