BUTTERFLIES?!?!?!
OR LIFE PRESERVERS?
That IS the question!!
EA had a special sewing project – this past spring, and into the summer.
She picked out her fabric to sew an Oliver + S, Hula Hoop Skirt.
And, after we cut it for her . . . it was time to begin sewing!
The Hula Hoop Skirt is an easy pattern for the beginning sewist! And, although we sewed the more tedious steps of the directions, EA did the vast majority of the sewing by herself {with a “teacher” right by her side}.
We can’t say enough good things about the Brother cs-6000i sewing machine {affiliate length}. It has a speed control setting {a WONDERFUL feature for a beginning sewist, in our opinion} and is reasonably priced for the features it offers!!! Ashley {frances} uses it as her “backup machine”, but sews all her buttonholes with it . . . .it’s that good!
Another good thing about the Hula Hoop skirt is that it is reversible!! This gave EA a sense of double gratification – giving her TWO skirts instead of one!!
It was tough to decide which side was a favorite for everyone!
The skirt was put to the test on the playground, as well as bicycling around the neighborhood. Thank goodness for those hideez {affiliate link}!
And, in the end, it was the butterflies that stole this girl’s heart!!
Oh, and she already has her sight set on sewing a dress for her next project . . .
Time will tell, time will tell . . .
Oh wow, so nice to see a little one excited about sewing. Been trying to convince my daughter to give it a go but she’s a bit reluctant. (Oh and very happy to learn about hideez too!)
Sometimes EA wants to give it a go . . . other times, not so much. We try to let her guide us on when she wants to sew, and what she would like to tackle. YEA for hideez!!! The girls wear them practically daily!!
Love it so much! Beautiful job on sewing a skirt, EA!
She beamed when we read the comments about her sewing . . . THANK YOU!
She did a fantastic job! The butterfly side is my favorite too. 😉 I don’t have it on my current machine, but that speed control setting is really great for precise stitching- I miss it!
We taught / guided some children in a little sewing class earlier this year . . . . and they saw the need for the speed control!! In fact, many didn’t want to use a machine without it!!
What a great post!
Thanks, Rachel!! We hope she will continue to want to learn how to sew . . . no projects in the works currently, though.
