“Miss Polly” Goes to Kindergarten

If you’ve followed our blog for any length of time, you probably know that our sister SELDOM has a “say” in what we sew the nieces! That’s good . . . and bad!!

It’s wonderful because she isn’t picky – she trusts us, our tastes, and style for the girls . . . no matter the outcome.  It’s bad because we don’t get a lot of feedback on what she prefers in the girls’ wardrobes.

Enter: “Miss Polly“

“Sister Momma” discovered “Miss Polly” while scrolling through Pinterest one evening. She texted us a picture and said she liked it!!

WHOA! Stop. The. Presses.

“Sister Momma” had stated an opinion on a children’s clothing pattern.

Well, that sealed the deal. We had only been talking about what we needed to sew EA for her 1st day of Kindergarten for, oh. . . about a month.

And, it was down to the wire – with summer vacation drawing to a close.

We found some fabric in our stash. JUST PERFECT . . .especially since we had been “talking a good game” of using the “said stash” all through the summer months, but hadn’t put our actions with our words.

We sewed the Sew Pony Vintage, Miss Polly {view B}, while creating slight interest in the manipulation of the checks.

We were pleased with the way our bodice and skirt area lined up, as well as the way the pocket area and sleeves added a bit of intrigue while being cut on the bias.

We continue to struggle with zipper installation, and this was no different.

We know the more we practice, the better we will become . . . yet, we tend to avoid zippered patterns due to our lack of expertise in this area.

We will leave it as: the next one will be better!

There was a “key element” to the dress that EA was smitten with . . . Let’s just say, she thoroughly enjoyed showing “her magic trick” to anyone / everyone!

If that weren’t enough, the pocket area created such a great “hideaway” for special trinkets . . . or in this case, “Mermaid Elsa!”

Obviously, EA approved of her new dress, but more importantly – “Sister Momma” liked it as well!!

In her eyes, it was an outfit worthy of the 1st day of Kindergarten.

So while we didn’t complete another dress {ie: the “Meet the Teacher” dress} as intended, EA donned “Miss Polly” {quite proudly} on the 1st day of school.

And, we consider that a SUCCESS!

So nice! I love the combination of the fabric, piping and pattern. The bias checks on the side panels are great. And the fit is perfect. So cute!

I love so much that you sew for your niece, this dress is absolutely perfect. And it always makes me smile when I have seen pictures of children on blogs now for so long, and to see their growth. Awesome that your sister sent you this pattern, it’s fantastic! Love the dress.

Thanks, Jess! She truly IS growing up . . . .and keeps us on our toes ALL. THE. TIME! We feel the same way about other “blogging babies” that now aren’t babies anymore.

No wonder your sister loved the dress :) My daughter shows the same trick haha The pocket is wonderful. Great pattern matching, and I love how you played with the direction of the print on the pocket and the sleeved :)

She is so darling! We can’t believe she’s so big now. And at the same time she seems so grown up…
Also you’ve definitely made us take a second look at that pattern!

She’s so fun!! I love her ‘magic trick’. =) Beautiful check matching, and I like the change of direction on the pockets and sleeves. I really like using the invisible zipper foot made for my machine…or I did, until that machine broke! I also like the results better if I baste the zipper in instead of pinning.

Thanks for the hints on zipper installation. Someone else mentioned wondertape, so we may try that the next time.
