A while back, we sewed a partial version of the Children’s Corner, Virginia.
Partial? Why yes . . . because we did not include one of our favorite elements of the original pattern – the scalloped collar.
So, we decided to sew another one. But this time, sew it “as is” – using only Virginia pattern pieces in the creation.
We sewed a Children’s Corner, Virginia size 5, with a size 6 length in Michael Miller’s Lacey Daisy. EA has growing room in the chest area, yet the length is perfect for her currently.
The verdict? We LOVED the collar and the empire waist.
However, we did not care for the puffed sleeves – puffed on both sides. Wow . . . they were something else. We referenced Anne of Green Gables quite frequently while sewing them. The gathered skirt area was also not a favorite of ours. We prefer to sew pleats instead of gathers, whenever possible. The scalloped edge of the sleeves were sweet though, coordinating well with the collar design.
An aside: Our sleeve puffer has gone missing!! And, we are lost without it. . . .
We know, we know . . . how can something like that “go missing”!?!?!
Your guess is as good as ours.
We think it might be hanging out with the Princess Leia doll that also is M.I.A.
When we sew the Virginia again, we foresee sewing a scalloped collar, pleated skirt, and substituted sleeves {perhaps from the Ruthie again?}.
THAT might be the winning combination in our eyes . . . MAYBE!!
I love the shape of the collar. The cuffs on the sleeves match it well. What is a sleeve puffer?
It’s an iron for the sleeve – shaped in an oval, that you clamp to the end of a counter {or ironing board}. Do you know another name for one? The place we bought ours was destroyed by fire, and we’ve heard there isn’t another resource for one.
That collar is so lovely! And while I do love a puffed sleeve (a la Anne), I do think there is a time and a place for them 😉 I think your dress is really pretty. And what’s a sleeve puffer??
While we are HUGE fans of Anne of Green Gables, we will opt out of the puffed sleeves :). Small ones are doable . . .
As for the sleeve puffer, check out our reply to Jenya {comment above}. And, if you know of another name . . . please share! We are in the market for one :).
Love the collar!
Thanks Emily!
That collar! And those cuffs! I love puffed sleeves, but I agree that these might be a bit much. 😉
We will go with “less is more” on the next round . . . but, still in love with the lines of the collar!
