The Oliver + S, Swingset Tunic {and skirt} ranks in our top five of “Summer Wardrobe Sews” . . . year in and year out!
The style has always been a favorite of the girls, and the tiny straps and loose fitting nature of the garment gives a breeziness to an otherwise hot summer.
It’s suffice to say that when the girls outgrow this pattern, we will be sad!
While the skirt is available through size 14, the tunic only goes to a size 5.
A year or so ago, some Oliver + S sewists coined the term: the Size 5 Project.
The premise??
To sew the Oliver + S patterns that ended at a size 5 ONE LAST TIME for their children before they outgrew a particular pattern.
Patterns included: Puppet Show Tunic, Dress, and Shorts, Bubble Dress, Tea Party Sundress and Playsuit, and the Swingset Tunic.
At that time, we hadn’t reached that size range . . . but followed along {feeling their agony of a growing child and pattern that ended}.
That said, EA has now made the leap into the “Size 5 Project”.
You see . . . we sewed a size 4 swingset tunic for EA (that was actually cut last summer), and promptly after taking photos of the outfit – we moved it into CL’s closet.
It looks like next summer may be EA’s “Swan Song” with the Oliver + S, Swingset Tunic . . .
It is a gorgeous outfit. The colours suit your lovely model so well! Oh the bitter sweet feeling that comes with sewing the last size for the last time…
We haven’t experienced “outgrowing patterns” much yet . . . but, it’s coming!! She’s growing FAST!
She is such a pretty little girl! They all grow far too quickly- I like the idea of the size 5 project though. I love the colors of this outfit too. =)
Thanks! We gravitate towards blues / greens A LOT!!
