A Cosi Swimsuit for EA

We had put this sewing project off almost as long as the raincoat!!

Sew Pony Vintage, Cosi Swimsuit

Almost two years ago, we bought the girls some “swimsuit fabric” {HERE} while at the SAGA conference in Orlando, Florida.

Then, it collected dust.

One summer went by, and another approached.

Finally, we decided the time had come to sew each girl a swimsuit.

UGH.

We dreaded it.

We preferred to sew other “fun” projects that were waiting for us.

Still, despite our best efforts of “avoidance” – we caved, and sewed ALL. THREE. GIRLS. A. SUIT.

This project paralleled the raincoat project due to the fact we had to gather some unique “materials” for this endeavor {bar slides, rings, and swimsuit elastic were all items not found in our sewing stash}.

We sewed EA the Cosi Swimsuit, view A {sz 4, with sz 6 length}. Due to the many, many options of this pattern, the instructions were confusing at times!!

However, that said . . . PAGE 10 is a LIFESAVER – it is a “cheat sheet” on the sewing order of each view. Thank you, thank you, thank you Suz!

While the final product was modest . . . and pretty dog-gone cute . . . sewing swimwear is NOT something we gain great enjoyment from sewing. We are sure it will be done again, but thankfully, the swimming season only comes around once a year!

Hip, hip, hooray!! The good news is: EA will probably be able to wear this swimsuit for two summers. There is plenty of length for her to grow into, and the adjustable cross-back straps will give her some growing room as well.

Oh my gosh, working with knits swim suit materials is my biggest sewing nemesis. That swim suit is so cute and love the ruched front. My five year old will be starting up formal swim lessons again this fall, I just may have to “dive into” trying this one.

It wasn’t nearly as bad as we thought it might be . . . and the fabric is very forgiving {which helps}!

It turned out so cute!!!!!! I don’t usually have swim elastic or slides in my stash either but I should stock up when they are on sale. Love your pictures too!

I have some swim fabric that has been gathering dust for a while now too… I should sew that up. I like the ruched section in the front of the suit!

We weren’t sure HOW it was going to look while we were sewing it, but really liked the appearance of the ruching once it was complete.
