Accessories, accessories, accessories were a LARGE part of our “Sewing for Disney: Safari #1″ {as well as Safari #2} look . . .
We sewed EA an Oliver + S, Music Class Blouse and Skirt {sz 5}. And, while this ensemble fits her for now, hindsight tells us we should have lengthened the blouse by 1/2 – 1″ to increase its wearability a bit longer.
The outfit was set off by the Oliver + S, Bucket Hat {a FREE pattern available by Oliver and S}.
We modified it slightly to include an adjustable drawstring, as well as enlarged the brim by 1″.
Which, by the way, came in handy while at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Those hats came on and off ALL. DAY. LONG. yet the girls kept them on their bodies {instead of in our hands}!
However, the cheap binoculars lasted about 30 minutes.
The cording couldn’t withstand the rigors of a 5 and 3 year old safari-going child!!
But, who needs binoculars with a view like this?!?! *This photo was from the “Flights of Wonder” show. Emily {suzanne} was selected to go on stage and have an owl fly over her head while taking photos of the moment. SCORE!
But, back to our sewing: It’s funny, because as many children that we saw dressed up as princesses / various characters in Magic Kingdom . . . there just wasn’t much carryover into the Animal Kingdom.
The girls definitely got the looks {and sweet comments} – from fellow visitors, workers, characters, you name it . . .
They played their parts well . . .and safari-ed ALL. DAY. LONG. Especially EA! She found all sorts of “treasures” to put in her pockets through the course of our Safari Adventure!
Before going to the Animal Kingdom, we heard varying reports on how long it would take for one to enjoy this Disney park. We felt confident that the girls would like the Animal Kingdom, so we allotted a day for it.
Unfortunately, we didn’t adequately plan for our transportation time and got a later start than anticipated. We also opted to go “sans stroller” which might have slowed us down a little.
That said, we ran out of time at the Animal Kingdom! There were things that we didn’t get to see / do that will just have to wait until another trip!!
It’s hard to believe that only ONE OUTFIT remains to be shared from our “Sewing for Disney” experience {ie: CL’s FAVORITE!}!!
I wouldn’t have looked at those patterns and thought ‘Safari’ but they work perfectly! I like the wider brim and drawstring on the hat, and of course I love the piping on the blouse!
I don’t think we’d sew the bucket hat without a wider brim now :)!! We really need to sew one for LG, the youngest one!
