Light. Summery. Classic. Subtle. Unique.
That’s what we were going for.
Vintage was not exactly what we had in mind. . .
Yet with this hem length one might wonder!
Thankfully, being a 3 year old has its perks . . . including short hem lengths, and ruffle panties and/or hideez.
Our “Sewing for Disney: Cinderella” outfit was created using the Lou Bee Clothing, Shandiin as our starting point.
We sewed a sz 3T, and added 2″ in length {hindsight: we should have added a bit more!}.
We sewed the Shandiin in a pale “Cinderella blue” and added white bias around the shoulders, armholes, and neckline.
Then, we went for the added bonus:
EMBROIDERY . . . on the front AND back of the dress.
For the front, we embroidered Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage.
And, on the back . . . her missing glass slipper.
Subtle . . .
Sweet . . .
Cha-ching!
And, just like that, our Magic Kingdom sewing is complete.
While we wouldn’t replace any of our creations, there were so many characters that would have been fun to add to this list. But, that will just have to wait for another time, another trip!! Although we have our “mental list” of additions for next time, we are always interested in what you think . . .
Out of curiosity, was there a specific character you would have liked to see our interpretation of that wasn’t represented??
Hang in there, though, the fun isn’t QUITE done!
There’s still more to come . . . with two outfits sewn for our visit to the Animal Kingdom.
This one is so sweet!!! Love all your sewing for Disney posts.
Thanks for following along on our Disney sewing adventure!! We had a BLAST with it . . .
My daughters PreK did a “Get to know the graduates” thing as they are moving to Kindergarten in the fall and when asked “If you had a million dollars what would you buy?” her response was “Dresses for girls who don’t have mommies to make them and and Aurora play dress”. Needless to say I have an Aurora costume on my cutting table now but would have loved to see what your “nod” would have been.
How precious!! She has such a sweet, sweet heart!! Since returning, CL has requested an “Aurora dress” as well . . . so, we’ve brainstormed {but that’s as far as we’ve gotten}. We laughed and thought pajamas might work . . . since she WAS “Sleeping Beauty!”
I love this pattern. The embroidery is such a lovely detail
Thanks, Jenya! It was super easy. . . we wanted to use silver DMC, but it was too slick/slippery to get a good, secure stitch.
I was inspired by your earlier Disney sewing to start some of my own. My niece was recently introduced to Disney so I thought I might sew some corresponding outfits to the movies she’s seen. I’ve been working on an Aurora out of Oliver + S puppet show dress and Jasmine out of the Oliver + S ruffle halter and puppet show shorts.
Just out of curiosity… Had you sewn an Elsa outfit, any thoughts on how you might have pulled it off?
Oooooh, a ruffle halter Jasmine . . . now THAT is creative!! We’d love to see both of your Disney inspired creations once you complete them!! Hmmmm, Elsa. That’s TOUGH! She’s just so iconic right now – and there are so many re-creations, it’s tough to make a unique look. We’re still mulling over this challenge . . .
Gaaaawwwww! This is so stinking sweet, I can’t even. I love the embroidered details. You girls rock!
Thanks, Shelly!! In hindsight, I wish I had taken a close-up photo of the carriage. Ugh. Glad you could get the “gist” of the look :).
This looks like the perfect summer sundress, Cinderella inspired or not. The fabric looks perfect, light and airy.
It is SUPER light and airy!! And wrinkly . . .
Oh, that embroidery! Beautiful!
Thanks, Charity!
