Before we delved into our “Sewing for Disney” projects, we asked each niece to name their “Top Three” Disney Princesses.
Not surprisingly, Elsa made both girls’ lists!
**SPOILER ALERT**
In an effort to be fair, we opted to NOT sew a Sewing for Disney: Elsa outfit for either niece.
We had already decided that we would have no repeating characters between the two of them . . . so, Elsa was out.
But, you can’t go to Disney World {or have a “Sewing for Disney” series, for that matter} without giving a nod to the ladies of FROZEN.
Enter: Anna.
{Our personal favorite of the sisters anyway . . .}
We sewed an Oliver + S, Ice Cream Dress – merging the middle and hem section into one piece.
Believe it or not, the Oliver + S, Ice Cream Dress was our only repeating pattern of the “Sewing for Disney” project {you can see our other creation HERE}.
All fabric colors represented were taken from pieces of Anna’s attire: light cyan yoke, black piping, deep blue dress portion, and even a fushia tulip pocket to mimic the tulips around Anna’s hemline.
We had some fun with the tulip accent!
The tulip itself was created using the Ice Cream Dress pocket pattern piece – no changes whatsoever to it.
We added a painted stem and leaves using fabric paint . . . . and embroidery {well, straight stitches} . . . to smooth out the painted lines a bit!
And, voila . . . an “Anna Dress”!
This is a great idea for a dress! I love that it can be worn anywhere!
Thanks Christie!! We had to “sew smart” for our trip . . .b/c the outfits were going to end up as the girls’ summer clothes!
My girls would both love this dress! I remember when we went to DisneyWorld, they were so excited to meet Anna and Elsa. We waited in that line for 90 minutes! Lol – but just like everything else Disney, it was magical.
But, of course it was magical! That’s Disney!! Personally, we wish our nieces would prefer Anna over Elsa . . .but the magic and sparkles woo them. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!
How cute! The pocket-turned-tulip is very clever! I like the stitched outline around the paint too.
Just a tad of “embroidery” . . . that’s all we had time for!!
I love everything about this, especially the adorable model! I’m about to cut out my first ice cream dress which is also my first Oliver + S pattern. I’d like to add piping to the yoke seam as you did here and wondered if you had any tips or advice. I’ve added piping once before on the Geranium dress by Rae but the back yoke was different.
Thanks! I’m so glad I found your blog!!
