What a HAPPY, HAPPY fabric line!!
Rae, of Made by Rae, hit the ball out of the park with this collection. . . we LOVE them all!! Our 1st “taste” of this collection was while sewing CL’s backpack. After that, we were hooked!
So, we tried to buy other prints in the collection . . . .some to no avail {boo hoo . . . we wanted those wiener dogs soooo badly}. And now we hope for a similar collection to be in the works – *HINT, HINT . . .Rae!
Anyway, we digress!
We sewed an Oliver + S, Playtime Tunic for EA. She needed more “play / school outfits”, and this was a perfect addition to her winter wardrobe {and, if you were wondering . . . the yellow balloon was her favorite}.
That, and we needed to familiarize ourselves with the Oliver + S , Playtime Tunic once again. You see, we gave EA and CL the opportunity to go “fabric shopping” {disclaimer: from our STASH of fabric}. Both girls picked some knit fabric for us to sew each of them a Playtime Tunic.
Photos always lead to interesting conversations!! Here is a snippet of what this one sounded like . . . .sorry it doesn’t come as a “southern” sound bite!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to ride in a hot air balloon?
{insert: ballerina moves ???}
How BIG is a hot air balloon? {taller than her . . . on her tippy toes}
What makes it float? {the fire and hot air}
Would you like to ride in one. . . someday???
{maybe . . . I think so, as she pretends to be going up . . . }
If you were in a hot air balloon, what face would you make as you look down on the people below?
{**Photographer note: This picture still makes us laugh!! SOMEONE isn’t a bit dramatic, is she??}

So precious! Great questions, too, to get a child’s mind working to think for herself. Nice work, Aunties!
Wish it had been for educational purposes . . .just trying to get some more “natural” pictures!!
Hehe, I have a very dramatic one myself… she can be very entertaining! I agree, such a happy fabric line! And the end result is very cute. =)
She looks so lovely.
I think of these sweet girls everyday. I hope they are doing okay.

We appreciate those thoughts so very much . . .
Beautiful work, as always! I tried adding piping to this pattern for a Christmas dress, and I have only been sewing for a short while, I’m not that experienced yet. I had trouble attaching piping since there is the straight edge on one side and gathered edge on the other. I’ve only done piping on straight lines before. Could you please walk me through how you do it? I know it’s second nature to you both! Thank you.
Sure Charlene! In the case of this pattern, I attached the piping to the right side of the yoke (non-gathered piece) first. Some people opt to baste it on, but I typically just sew it down securely since these stitches will not be removed. Then, pin your gathered skirt to your yoke as usual BUT flip it so that the wrong side of the yoke is touching the presser foot of your sewing machine when you get ready to sew the two pieces together (the piping will be sandwiched in between). Ta-da! You will see the stitching where you stitched the piping to the yoke and can simply follow the stitching line (or a touch inside the line to cover your stitching)! If this needs any clarification, please don’t hesitate to ask and good luck!!!
