What began as a mistake, ended up as one of the most comfortable outfits in EA’s closet sewn to date!!
You see, Girl Charlee was having a sale. And, we had been eyeing some knits for a while….
So, it was time to buy! And, buy we did.
Except…Emily {suzanne} didn’t read the “fine print” / fabric specifications, and assumed she was purchasing “all knits.”
Oooops. The bicycles were actually peach skin fabric. What’s peach skin fabric?? Per Girl Charlee‘s description: Peach skin fabric has a soft brushed finish, does not wrinkle, and is perfect for dresses, tops, and more!
Hmmmmmm. So, it was a mistake, but we really, really, really liked the bicycles and wanted to use them!!
We tried to talk EA into accessorizing this outfit with them…NO SUCH LUCK.
Then, we decided a good “flowy” skirt would work well for this sort of material. “Sister Momma” compared it to “silk boxers” – if that gives you any indication to the texture of this fabric. As for the skirt, we opted to sew the Oliver + S, Swingset Tunic + Skirt.
OH. MY. We laughed while sewing this skirt, stating EA is going to think she isn’t wearing anything at all!! Or, at least feel as if it is like her “dress-up clothes.”
We sewed a size 3, with no modifications – largely due to the way EA wears her skirts, shorts, and pants.
The tunic was sewn as a size 4, with 1/2″ length added. Hindsight: the length was NOT needed {but again, we were trying to compensate for the way EA wears the above mentioned items}.
The tunic was kept simple, and classic, for the most part. We added some navy piping and red buttons {we had to throw in a POP of color somewhere, right?} on the back. Although, after seeing Janice’s {or should we say, Julia’s…} braided straps, it made us wish we had tried a similar look for EA’s tunic!!
We were most pleased with ourselves on the addition of a placket to the back of the tunic!! We had wanted to attempt adding a placket to the swingset tunic for quite some time, but hadn’t worked up the nerve to try it…
*Please note: We primarily wanted to add a placket for inside cleanliness of the garment – not that one was needed for accessibility / wearability…
YEA! YEA! Fist pump for “Team Frances Suzanne”!! Believe it or not….IT WORKED!!! And, the inside of the tunic is a bit more finished…
The next placket will be even better…and maybe come with some directions for you to give it a try too!!
I’ve almost bought wovens from Girl Charlee on accident several times! I like what you made with this though… it looks flowy and fun!
I think it is because Girl Charlee is synonymous with knits for us…..not because it wasn’t described on their end!! Yes, it is definitely flowy and fun!!
Thanks for describing what Peach Skin fabric is? I’ve wondered that lately, and kuddos to you for using it! I would have probably reconsidered since I don’t have much experience or confidence with sewing silky, thin fabrics. The outfit is perfection and looks like it came straight out of a boutique catalog!
Oh, you SOOOOO could have sewn with it!! We were just surprised :). The outfit might be her coolest creation for the summer!
What a great outfit. I always love bicycle fabric! (although I need to do mh own on Spoonflower where the bicycles have reasonable geometry!)
I love wearing that kind of fabric and it must feel super fancy for EA. Lucky kid, she looks gorgeous as always. Definitely a happy accident.
I bet the geometry DOES drive you crazy!! She has liked it A LOT, and it has kept her cool during the hot, southern summer…
