The MATRIARCH of Sewing Bundle Sales has once again been released for purchase!!
Introducing The Sew Fab Pattern Sale: Spring 2014.
19 patterns…for $29.95…sold through the course of ONE. WEEK. ONLY!
After meeting Jenny {of The Southern Institute} on our Girls’ Day Out – Nashville, we had the opportunity to sew 2 of the Sew Fab patterns and share them with you!
First up: Too Sweets, Tulip Pinafore {sz 3}
Such a fun, comfortable top…..made for play!!
We used some of the fabric bought during our trip to Nashville, to create both pieces.
The Tulip Pinafore is a quick, easy sew {as in, it could easily be completed in one night}. We lined it with gingham check, creating a little visual interest around the arm openings and back closure.
Our only modification to it was to include a bias binding around the entire outer edges. This gave it a “pop” of color, and tied in the red dandelions in the main fabric. It did add to the length of completion time, but we felt it was well worth the effort when it was said and done!
We even tried a new technique: mitering edges, using Sew to Speak’s helpful advice to get us through the process!
Moving on to the shorts.
Molly Blossoms, Sweet Tea Shorties {sz 3}
We are IN LOVE with this fabric…..denim-colored knit {jegging}.
It is soooooo comfortable, we are threatening to make us a pair of pants in this fabric as well.
While the pattern pieces didn’t match up exactly and we finished our ruffles before attaching them to the shorts, the overall look was really, really cute!! Our niece LOVES the movement and freedom she has in these shorts. They are extremely lightweight, and are sure to be a staple in her summer wardrobe.
These comfortable wardrobe selections may completely spoil her as we enter the summer months! Not that we blame her….

She looks perfect for summer play time, and I never would have thought to make ruffle shorts with jegging fabric! I know this outfit is going to get lots and lots of wear!
Someone gave my middle daughter a skirt from the same kind of fabric as those shorts… I love it! I think I need some to sew with. =) I appreciate that you finished the ruffles off, and is that serger usage I see? =)
I like the fabric choices and the addition of binding to the top too. =)
