Little did I know how well my strengths as a structural engineer would lend themselves to an even greater joy found in the technical, mathematical, and artistic demands of sewing! A six month old daughter, an encouraging Mom, and a very old hand-me-down sewing machine came together at the perfect time providing inspiration for what is now a passionate hobby. I’ve added tools, upgraded machines, and continually push myself to tackle sewing projects which take me far beyond my initial expectations. I’m thankful to have found a pastime that not only fits my heart and mind, but blends well with my family too! Sewing for two daughters, planning their parties, and baking keep me happily at home and a stranger to boredom!
Hi everyone, I’m Melanie! While I am a wife of a hard-working MBA student and mother of 3 (almost 4!) girls first and foremost, I am also a blogger at The Crafty Cupboard where I share my latest projects. I’ve been sewing since I was 8 when my mom taught a whole slew of neighborhood children sewing classes one summer, and I kept right on sewing. Once I was grown and off on my own in college, my meager sewing skills began to really blossom, and now I sew regularly for my girls, my home, and frankly- for my sanity! I also love to quilt; it is perfect for wrapping your favorite fabrics around you! While my sewing machine and I get along really well, I can’t say the same about my kitchen. 😉 I love being part of a big online sewing and crafting community, and I am so glad to be part of this series where there is inspiration at every turn.
