The FINAL installment of “Sewing for Disney” is none other than CL’s absolute FAVORITE outfit of the trip.
And, the one that she still requests to wear time and time again {aka: her “SHAFARI dress” – yes, according to CL, it’s SHAFARI . . . not SAFARI}.
For “Sewing for Disney: Safari #2″, we sewed CL an Oliver + S, Jump Rope Dress {sz 3}.
This was a version of the Jump Rope Dress that we hadn’t sewn yet . . . and is the view that “sold us” on purchasing the pattern initially.
We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this style of dress . . . and obviously aren’t alone.
CL is SMITTEN with it!
She even practiced making her “Safari face” while wearing it {?!?!?!?!}.
THIS CHILD!
The main modification made to the pattern was replacing the Jump Rope pocket pattern piece with the Field Trip Cargo Pants Pockets. We also made the sash “reversible / two-toned”, thus changing that pattern piece slightly.
These changes might not have been necessary, but we were just trying to keep with the “Safari feel” of the outfit.
We also sewed CL a “Safari hat” {Oliver + S, Bucket Hat . . . a FREE pattern available} of her own. That little fair-skinned scalp of hers needed all the protection we could give it.
And, again, we broadened the brim by 1″.
Oh yes, her cheap binoculars also bit the dust early in the day!
Since we enjoyed a FULL DAY of the Animal Kingdom, CL took a little nap while waiting to see Pocahontas. However, she awoke just in time to meet the princess.
Again, we wish we had planned to spend more time at the Animal Kingdom!
Both girls loved it . . . the animals . . . the characters . . . the atmosphere . . .
While this concludes our “Sewing for Disney” series, we’ll be back next week with a roundup of all of our “looks”, as well as a post documenting some helpful suggestions we read / were given that helped us through our trip! *That post may be more for our benefit than yours . . . because when we do return to Disney, you better believe we’ll be revisiting those suggestions!
OH MY! How great are those outfits. I am so unfamiliar with Disney World, Animal Kingdom looks fun and we will have to incorporate a stop there into our Disney trip next year. The whole series of outfits was so well done and I LOVE the fact the outfits are wearable beyond the trip.
Yea for an upcoming trip to Disney for you!!! How exciting!! Our minds are already racing about a return trip with the youngest niece . . .
That is so, so cute! I really like the two fabrics in the sash.
Thanks Charity! We were going for subtle . . .
