Keeping with the “detail oriented” theme, we opted to sew a flamingo for LG’s animal-based outfit for the Animal Kingdom.
We thought it would compliment EA’s zebra attire nicely, and please our “partial to pink” youngest niece.
AKA: the queen of silliness. Time and time again . . .
To begin, we sewed the Oliver + S, puppet show shorts in a size 5.
Then, we sewed a Children’s Corner, Frannie in a size 5 as well.
We cut 2 3/4″ from the hemline to create a tunic, instead of a dress.
For the flamingo: we traced entire flamingo {template found HERE} on hot pink fabric – and kept the hot pink fabric as a block. We did not cut the flamingo shape from this fabric.
Instead, we placed coral and black accents {for head} on top of the hot pink fabric.
We cut 3 sizes of feathers and added them from the base of the flamingo upward, overlapping as we went.
The feathers were stitched at 1/4″, to give them some “feathery texture”.
After ironing Heat n’ bond {affiliate link} to the back of the hot pink fabric, we cut the shape of the flamingo and positioned it on the main shirt.

Finally, we ironed and stitched it in place.
According to LG? It was a winner!
And our verdict? The tunic could have been slightly shorter – the shorts were lost under it from time to time.
Ultimately though, we prefer to miss it long than short!
Fabulous! I love the black and white fabrics you chose to highlight that amazing flamingo. Love it paired with the pink boots, too!
Thank you!! LG gets full credit on accessorizing the outfit for the photos. However, Disney just got tennis shoes . . . comfort wins, every time!
