This summer we celebrated a niece that you seldom see on the blog: LG!
She turned three. We know . . . THREE!! Unbelievable!!
And, she requested a “Sparkle Birthday Party”.
It’s hard to tell what she envisioned, but one thing is for certain – she stuck with her request.
So, we decided we would sew her something that sparkled. It would be a perfect opportunity to sew for the youngest niece that is the queen of handmade-me-downs.
But, we don’t typically sew SPARKLES.
It’s not our “thing”.
So, we used some “creative interpretation” and made a size 3, Oliver + S, Hopscotch Dress . . . trimmed in sparkles!
The sparkle fabric was a surprise gift from a blogging friend, and one that worked perfectly with our vision.
We bought this trim {affiliate link}, and decided to “go big, or go home” – opting to trim the neckline, sleeves, and hemline in sparkles.
LG initially stated – I wike {like} it!
Then, she wore it.
#NOTAFAN {but these pictures are frame worthy, aren’t they?}
The sparkles on the sleeves were her major complaint.
We thought about eliminating the sleeve trim, but decided she would then fixate on the neckline.
So, she wore it for pictures…not her “sparkle party”…and we sold it in our local consignment sale.
It was a “one and done” outfit.
You win some, you lose some.
Yet, no matter what . . . this child adds a lot of sparkle to our lives!
What a pity ’cause it’s very cute. I think there’s more grief in trying to understand why they don’t like something than just shrugging, passing (or even better selling) it on and making the next thing. Tricky critters, three year Olds!
She’s so cute! That dress is such a fun interpretation of her birthday theme (and I think pretty much any three-year-old girl would love a ‘sparkle’ party!) It’s too bad that she thought it was scratchy.
