When the Building Block Dress first came out, we made this dress for EA . . . while vowing to do many more dresses using the already drafted pattern pieces. But then she grew . . . and we never got around to it.
Ahhh, but one of the beauties of sewing for our oldest niece is there are two younger nieces that follow – claiming handmade-me-downs, and falling into the “outgrown size ranges.”
CL is now wearing a size 5, Oliver + S {with a little room to grow}.
A perfect opportunity to sew another Building Block Dress, using those previously drafted pattern pieces . . .
We sewed this dress just like the original creation made for EA: princess seamed, capped sleeves, inverted pleats on the skirt area, and fun pockets.
Our only variation was excluding the hem facing and altering the collar area.
We decided to mix things up a bit and try a shaped collar {as shown in dress variation F of the Building Block Dress}.
CL thought she had hung the moon with this new addition to her wardrobe.
It’s roomy. It has flowers EVERYWHERE on it. It has fun pockets.
And, it spins!!
Who could ask for more?
There was quite a bit of giddiness and “posing” for her photos – we still haven’t figured out when and where she decided “hands on the hips” were the way to pose for pictures {?!?!}.
Time and time again, it seems we talk about CL being our “most appreciative customer” . . . and it seems she still holds that title!! Thank you, CL, for always making sewing for you such a delight!!
At the risk of sounding like a stalker, I have been admiring this dress ever since you posted it, and love seeing it pop up in my feeds. The fabric combination is absolutely beautiful, and I love the collar so much!
Thank you for such a compliment, Emi!! You made our day . . .CL loves, loves, loves her new dress :).
That collar is just so fun, and who wouldn’t love those piped pockets? I really like the way the colors work together!
