Oliver + S, Apple Picking Dress

One’s sewing style takes its share of twists and turns along the way. . .

Some of the first things we sewed for our nieces we can only shake our heads about now . . .

Oliver + S, Apple Picking Dress

And then, there are those patterns you don’t give a second glance.

Oliver + S, Apple Picking Dress

Until a sewn version online catches your eye, and you say: “Why in the world have we not sewn that yet?!?!”

The Oliver + S, Apple Picking Dress was one of those patterns for us!

Oliver + S, Apple Picking Dress

It seems these neck ties are showing up everywhere these days  . . . and EA did happen to make a request for a “dress with a bow” recently.

Oliver + S, Apple Picking Dress

Past experiences told us she loves dresses with a drop waist {HERE and HERE}

So, it was a “done deal!”

Oliver + S, Apple Picking Dress

We sewed a size 6, and added 2″ to the sleeve length.

She needed every last centimeter of it!!

With most every creation we sew, we like to ask “the client” a favorite feature of the dress. EA is quite particular with her “favorite features”, and this time was no different.

Sleeve gathers. Pure and simple.

We asked. She answered.

She thought that detail made the dress extra special!

Isn’t it funny how tastes and styles change?!?! We LOVE this style now, and it didn’t appeal to us at all when we began sewing . . .

Cute and classic! I’m partial to the sleeve gathers too. 😉

I’m like you. I didn’t think much of this pattern. But this one looks adorable on EA. What I want to know is where you find her shoes? Love the different colors EA has! I’ve been looking for Cute Mary Jane style shoes for my daughter who is the same age as EA.

We are definitely a fan of this pattern now . . . The shoes are Livie & Luca. You can buy them here: https://iftheshoefitsllc.myshopify.com/search?q=livie+and+luca {I think the ones she has on in the photos are “ruche champagne”}. These are velcro closure, but this site also has some of the “classic” buckle shoes. Another good resource is: https://sikeschildrensshoes.com/ {This site has a LOAD of choices}.
