We don’t know about you, but we find “sewing for Fall / Winter” to be much, much, much more difficult than sewing for Spring / Summer.”

Between available pattern choices and fabric selection, it is a rough go at times.

Fortunately, our colder weather is much milder than many locations, and not nearly as long!! Still, whenever we see a semi-good fabric for fall, we snatch it up . . . .and hang on to it, for just the right occasion.

Destash = the right occasion.

We sewed an Oliver + S, After School Shirt for EA, paired with Shwin Designs, Lovely Rita Skinnies this fall. The shirt is a size 6, with size 7 length {adding 1″ to the hem}, but the pants are a size 7!! EEK! When did she grow up!?!?!?

Both have been good transitional pieces to her wardrobe.

Nothing fancy {like the first time we sewed it}. . . the only “extra” was the addition of piping – around the neckline, as well as separating the yoke and main piece. As we sewed, we referred to a great tutorial that walks you through this process.

Did you know destashing is tough?? Especially when dealing with prints, and a specified yardage! Time and time again through this process we have found ourselves squeezing out “just enough” to make whatever pattern we decide to do. It doesn’t leave much space to “fussy cut”, etc.

Perhaps that is what happens when your “clients” GROW!!! And something we should remember when we begin to buy more fabric to place in “the stash.”

Wait a second, did we just give ourselves permission to buy MORE fabric . . . and in greater quantities?!?!? Why, yes. Yes, we believe we did!
