Sewing for Disney: Donald Duck

“Who’s your favorite . . . Donald or Mickey?”

Sewing for Disney: Donald Duck

CL: “Donald”

Or as Donald Duck’s autograph proclaims, “Donald Duck #1″.

When being inspired by Donald, how can one sew without the vintage sailor look? We did opt to go more subtle with a white tie, rather than Donald’s blazing red one.

Nowadays, often the sailor look gets “written off” as old fashion, but we love the look. Speaking of old fashion, to get the vintage vibe we were searching for, we sewed Simplicity 5853 {size 3}. Copyright 1964.

So maybe we are a bit behind the times.

But, combined with the more modern Oliver + S, Puppet Show Shorts {for Donald’s white fluff}, we think it pulled the look together perfectly!

The shorts were a size 3T with no modifications other than the addition of piping.

The girls loved our brunch at Chef Mickey’s with friends:

Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Pluto.

The majority of the meal was spent in constant motion, wide grins, and laughter.

This girl loves Donald.

She can even talk quack like him.

Or so she thinks. *Insert bad radio static.

Nevertheless, Donald loves her too.

He is definitely #1 to her.

CL simply sparkles! You can tell she loves her outfit. Well done… as usual!

YES, SHE DOES SPARKLE! Just between us . . . it really hasn’t been her favorite of the group {although she looks adorable in it – according to her biased aunts}. Her absolute favorite garment will be the LAST one shown in our “Sewing for Disney” series.

Thanks Michelle!! We love challenging ourselves to thinking a bit outside of the box . . . like a project run and play challenge, without the stress of a project run and play challenge. You know . . . .

I love sailor-style clothing! This is such a cute outfit… I love the bit of blue in the shorts.

Thanks Charity! White shorts might teeter on the “impractical side” of things . . . .but, they were too cute to pass up!

Oh she’s just too adorable! Watch out Daisy I think you have competition! I love the sailor look also but it is a very great pity (and rather fortunate) to have to use a pattern from the 60’s. Time to reset the trend me thinks! It’s a perfect combination. So clever!

Thanks Tamara! We love, love, love sailor styles . . . so, this was a perfect excuse to sew one for CL!

Oh, she is just so adorable!! I love sailor outfits, too, and it’s great to have the flavor of “Donald” without just being for Disney. I love her “attitude” pose!! I have one of those girls, too- LOL.

The “attitude poses” completely crack us up. This child has quite the personality, yet is hard to photograph. She is typically solemn for photographs, so much so – that our parents were worried if she were having a good time at Disney or not . . .
