When Lisa {Mommy’s Apron Strings} won a contest for her gorgeous bonnet, she thought why not share the love with her readers!

Don’t smock? No problem! She has two variations to the pattern for with and without smocking. It also is adaptable for multiple trims, embellishments, and piping. Lisa’s instructions are very thorough, but I feel certain if you needed any clarification on any of them she’d help you in a heartbeat {or give you the shirt off her back for that matter}!

I had the opportunity to be involved in this EXCITING process! Lisa entrusted me to ‘play’ with her pattern pieces in Illustrator just to see if by the end they were indeed usable – ha! I think you will be pleased with the results, but would welcome any suggestions {teaser below}!

Then, I had the opportunity to pattern test the bonnet! I chose the non-smocked version, because there was no way I could ‘compete’ with the BEAUTY that Lisa had created! We have a WIP sunsuit that we were able to squeeze just enough fabric out of to make the bonnet. We look forward to having the sunsuit completed and being able to post the coordinating pieces!

The bonnet itself was a tad large, but should be perfect by the time summer rolls around. I noticed a suggestion on facebook that mentioned reducing the pattern pieces 10% to accommodate a younger child. Makes perfect sense to me!

The three children on the back of the pattern from top to bottom are 5 months, 8 months and 10 months to give you an idea of the fit. Sarah from gregariouslife did the precious one in the middle. She’s a woman after our own hearts – using gorgeous solids to show the lines of a pattern! I love the way the white piping ‘pops’ on her creation!
