A Best Friend Likely Receives Beta Versions…

WOW, were we ever behind on our January sewing!!!  With two ‘snowflake outfits’ for our nieces finally finished — it has been a never-ending sewing project at our house lately! A fluke “Southern Snow” and 1.5 days out of school helped our cause, yet we are still attempting to catch up.

That said, we found ourselves struggling to complete our first Oliver + S Firefly Jacket a few Friday nights ago….for a birthday present….at a party….the next morning!  This was highly stressful, since we seldom – if ever – sew for others. In fact, we barely made the deadline – rinsing out the garment a bit past midnight, and ironing it the next morning (*and no, it wasn’t our finest ironing moment as you can see through the pictures….but, we promise it was indeed ironed).

But, on to the jacket….We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this sweet, reversible jacket pattern {and foresee several more in our future}! It obviously came together quite quickly, and practically painlessly. Our only glitch came when we couldn’t find the button placement on the jacket pattern. Thank goodness for the Oliver + S forum….the answer was just a click away. And, if you were curious….technically, the button placement WAS marked on the jacket….just hidden underneath some tiling marks on the PDF version.

Hindsight tells us, though, that we should have followed the instructions and used ELASTIC CORDING….instead of ELASTIC THREAD! Here’s hoping it will survive the wear and tear of an independent two year old…

Pattern: Oliver + S Firefly Jacket {size 18-24 months}
Fabrics: FreeSpirit/Westminster Fibers – La Dee Dah, Fiddlesticks in Coral;
Coral corduroy {both purchased at TJ’s Fabrics during our road trip}
Buttons: 2 3/4 inch covered buttons; 2 3/4 inch buttons {found in a Joann’s button box}

It is exciting to sew for a child who can ‘rock’ the louder prints and colors…. a little out of our typical, comfort zone, BUT fun to play with various combinations for a sweet two year old!  Happy, happy birthday little Miss LE!

And while we are on the subject of oliver + s . . .have you seen the latest two patterns {roller skate dress + tunic pattern and pinwheel tunic + slip dress pattern} in the Spring/Summer collection? If you haven’t, you MUST check them out! They will be on sale beginning March 1st! And, yes, we must ask – do you prefer one over the other? If so…which one gets your money vote?
