Before the Bin {an Heirloom Keepsake}

Hmmmm, it seems we missed our “Happy Blogiversary” post last week!!

A Vintage, Heirloom Dress

When we began our blog in June 2012 {eek, can it really be THREE YEARS??}, we tried to give our readers a bit of our “sewing background” so to speak…. Of course, our reader base was zilch, nada, nothing. Yet, we still felt compelled to have an introductory post.

Within that post, we mentioned our mom….

A Vintage, Heirloom Dress

“Three daughters, dressed in their Sunday best, thanks to a loving mother who stitched many of their outfits by hand. How she found the time, patience, energy, or effort is beyond us….but she did, and that is where the ‘seed of creation’ emerged.” {photo of us seen HERE}.

That’s right!! Our mom did some sewing of her own “back in the day.” Now, she is content to watch us create, sew, and pass along outfits to her grandchildren.

But, what you might not have noticed were the two tiny words, BY HAND, as we described our mom’s sewing.

No machine. Just hand!! *And, an absolutely amazing feat if you ask us!!

A Vintage, Heirloom Dress

This creation is one of those “BY HAND” pieces of art!

A Vintage, Heirloom Dress

We’ve all worn this dress, and EA had the opportunity to do so a few weekends ago while visiting. Hence, the word VINTAGE. As in, prior to “the bin” posts we’ve released recently.

If you went to the photo link, did you notice that Ashley {frances} was actually wearing this dress in our introductory blog post???

And, since it’s been worn by us all, we thought a little “friendly competition” of “Who Wore It Best??” would be fun – judged by YOU!! Check out these “winning moments”….spanning our time with this beauty.

In all seriousness, we love seeing our nieces enjoy Grandmomma’s labor of love!! Dresses, such as this one, have been stored away – waiting for a special grandchild to wear it once more…. Fortunately, there will be three grandchildren lined up to do just that!

EA’s favorite part of the ensemble was the blue ribbon embroidery on the collar. Later, she was quoted as saying, “these sleeves are driving me crazy!” But, the dress itself outweighed those “crazy sleeves,” and EA thought it was just what she needed to add to her wardrobe. SCORE!

Thank you all for following along on our sewing adventures these past three years! We look forward to what the next year will hold….and hope you will stick around for the ride!

Congrats on three years! I cannot believe your mother stitched that entire dress by hand — absolutely amazing. What a treasure!

I always manage to miss my blog anniversary too. 😉
That dress is beautiful! And hand-sewn! That’s amazing. =) I’m impressed at how well the dress has lasted too. All four of you look so darling in the dress that I just can’t pick a favorite. =)

Precious heirloom sewing <3
That dress has been very well worn for all of you (sorry, no favorites)!
Your mother must be very proud of you for keeping the family tradition passed down to the new generations (obviously, keeping the hand sewing to a minimum. That would obviously be a labour of love/patience difficult to continue nowadays)

ABSOLUTELY!! We LOVE hand sewing, but like to keep a balance between the sewing machine and the stitching…
