It’s All Trivial! {Crafting Con: Board Game Challenge}

Well, we did it! We rolled the dice with another theme-related challenge. This time it was with Crafting Con. The challenge? A Board Game Inspired Outfit. And, since we couldn’t sew a repeat “Hungry, Hungry Hippo” outfit, we opted to sew another classic – TRIVIAL PURSUIT.

Trivial Pursuit: Board Game Challenge

As for our interpretation of it….we’ll leave that up to you to decide. You can read all about the challenge HERE, along with the nitty-gritty of where our inspiration came from, and why we did what we did.

Patterns used: Figgy’s Ayashe Blouse {sz: 2/3, with additional length} and Oliver + S Swingset Skirt {sz: 3}

Now, we want to share a little bit about PLAYING Trivial Pursuit with our niece, EA … for the 1st time … during the taking of these photos.

Trivial Pursuit: Board Game Challenge

Okay. She’s competitive. No doubt…primarily with herself…striving for perfection.

And, since she is only 4 {and Trivial Pursuit, “Genius Edition” isn’t the easiest game for any age}, we used “creative expression” on HOW we played the game. In other words, we asked her random questions – sometimes falling within a Trivial Pursuit category – and gave her a category piece if she answered correctly.

Now, let’s play Trivial Pursuit!!

The “Genius Edition” categories: Geography, Entertainment, History, Art and Literature, Science and Nature, and Sports and Leisure.

The “EA Edition” categories: Geography, Entertainment, Family Relations, Mathematics, Science and Nature, and Sports and Leisure. Sort of…

Our goal was for EA to be successful….while not being pushover aunts that gave her victory. She had to work for those pieces! Which, in turn, made us LAUGH! Major brain power was expended by a 4 year old…keeping her still and contemplative for a majority of the photos.

Trivial Pursuit: Board Game Challenge

Warm-up Question: How many belly buttons does a chicken have? One…Four? Sorry, Charlie – no piece for you! Glad that was just a warm-up…and a time for someone to loosen up a bit.

Question 1 {GEOGRAPHY}: contestant throws her hands in the air and interjects – “But I don’t even know what geography is!!”  Yes, you do….it’s about maps and the globe: “Name a country in Asia.”… I don’t know where Asia is. It’s where you always like to pretend to travel….it begins with a /ch/….CHINA!

Question 2 {MATHEMATICS}: What is 5 + 7? You’ll have to use your imagination on this…but a problem stemmed when someone didn’t have enough fingers to count!! Can I have some more time?!?!? YES! Counting continues, without much progress. Aunt has mercy and gives EA a hint: Count on from 7 {5 more} to find out. TWELVE! That was a close one….YES!

Question 3 {ENTERTAINMENT}: Who are the children in the movie, Mary Poppins? Jane and Michael. Yep – so, we gave her a dose of confidence with this question…chalk it up to “Aunt Weakness”!

Question 4 {????}: Okay, so we have NO IDEA what was asked here. Neither of us can remember, so it obviously didn’t leave a lasting impression like some of these other ones….possibly another math question??

Trivial Pursuit: Board Game Challenge

Question 5 {SPORTS AND LEISURE}: What sport would someone need to dribble? Basketball. Easy peasy!!

Question 6 {FAMILY RELATIONS ?}: If your mom had a sister, what would she be to you? *Insert “thinking / I’m stumped” face. Question is repeated. And, finally, the response: Ashley and Emily! And we would be your……??? AUNTS!

Trivial Pursuit: Board Game Challenge

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!

Ahhhh, but EA wasn’t done yet….she decided it was HER TURN to quiz Ashley…

She had her first question ready to go: What is the fastest land animal?

But then there was a LOT of thinking. She wanted to ask Ashley some HARD questions….so not just any question would do! And, for the record, we are STILL laughing at this picture!!

Trivial Pursuit: Board Game Challenge

She decided 100 + 100 and 200 + 200 were REALLY HARD and would definitely stump Ashley, who holds a degree in mathematics. NO SUCH LUCK!

Thankfully, she celebrated each question Ashley answered correctly and cheered her on in “her win!”

Trivial Pursuit: Board Game Challenge

It looks like Trivial Pursuit: “EA Edition” may be a keeper after all!
