St. Patrick’s Day was approaching.
EA had NOTHING green to wear.
Emergency sewing commenced….with none other than the Oliver + S, Butterfly Blouse and Skirt.
We raided our “stash”….and found what we thought would be PERFECT!
Lesson learned: IT WASN’T!
First of all, EA’s skirt was too large. Remember our important note of measurement – HIPS, HIPS, HIPS!!! That’s right, people….take note of HIP MEASUREMENTS.
Then, those stripes…. Ugh. The pleats on the skirt just made the stripes look wonky. We are confiscating this skirt immediately!!
She DID wear it for St. Patrick’s Day…until we could come up with another combination that would work with the cute green peplum blouse {sewn as a size 4, with a little extra length added for belly coverage :)}.
SCORE!! Bold, bright, and beautiful!!!
We found a duck print / canvas at Hobby Lobby that matched the green perfectly!
After sewing the skirt in one evening, and we were back in business….much cuter, we might add, for the 2nd go-around.
EA’s skirt is a size 2T – and just the size she needs, due to her … HIPS … and where she wears her pants, shorts, and skirts!
You live and learn.
No stripes.
No lightweight fabric for us.
And, if you are like us, and LOOK for ways to use home decor fabric in your sewing {as well as a quick and easy sew}….this just might be the pattern for you!
[…] I was also advise the check the hip measurements before choosing a size for this skirt (thank you Ashley and Emily <3) I picked a size bellow (6 years) for my girl and add adjustable elastic for the waistband. […]
I actually think the striped skirt is cute too… but maybe you could re-use the fabric for something else if you don’t like it! The floral version is even more fun. =)
