What a year, what a year, what a mighty fine year!!
We were going to forego the obligatory “RECAP” for the year, but upon seeing everyone else’s wonderful creations consolidated into one post…it was too much for us to sit on the sidelines. Call us lazy, but RECAP posts are laborious and “link intensive”….yet, as anyone that has ever done one, they are so worth it in the end…
January and February found us in the midst of Project Run and Play, Season 8. We lived and breathed PR&P over those two months – from sewing to blogging to photographing. It was one of the most stressful times of the year, yet it produced some of the most loved and worn creations of our nieces!!
In the Spring, we “overhauled” the “Flip this Pattern” series – changing the scheduling format into 3 seasons, with a brand new list of competitors and patterns. We even found time to sew along during four of the five months {as seen here, here, here, and here}.
Summer was a time to sew and prepare for a new addition to the “niece crew.” We sewed a few things for baby LG before she entered the world…and welcomed her with loving arms when she arrived 2 weeks early!
This Fall, we enjoyed a “Sewcation” in Orlando with the ladies of SAGA and guest speaker, Liesl Gibson of Oliver and S. It was wonderful to meet so many ladies that share similar passions for sewing as we do!
Our love for sewing Oliver and S patterns continued….
Picnic Blouse and Playtime Leggings, modified * Puppet Show Tunic and Shorts Playtime Dress, modified * Music Class Blouse and Skirt * Playdate Dress Hide and Seek Tunic and Playtime Leggings * Playtime Tunic and Leggings Music Class Blouse and Swingset Skirt * Music Box Jumper Bubble Dress * Music Class Blouse and Skirt * LTTS Bucket Hats Lullaby Layette * Sailboat Top * Puppet Show Dress LTTS Red Riding Hood Cape, modified * Hide and Seek Dress * Roller Skate Dress Croquet Dress, modified * Swingset Top and Puppet Show Shorts Garden Party Dress, modified * Puppet Show Dress Garden Party Blouse and After School Pants * Puppet Show Tunic and Shorts Croquet Dress * School Photo Dress and Jumprope Dress, modified * Lullaby LayetteAnd, we squeezed in a few “Heirloom Sewing” projects along the way {loosely termed that….maybe incorporating some handwork in our creations would be a better term}…like the Cottage Mama’s Georgia Vintage Dress, modified.
We always like to ask “Sister Momma” what she would term the MOST WORN outfits of the year for the girls…just for fun!
For EA: It was A TIE between the Charlie Dress and the Caroline Party Dress. The funny thing is, there are some common characteristics of each.
First, and foremost: TWIRLABILITY. And, secondly: EASE of wear AND care {a win for Sister Momma, thus returning from the laundry to EA’s closet in a more timely manner than some creations :)}.
For CL: HANDS DOWN, her upcycled Bimaa, skirt, and leg warmers.
This was an immediate favorite for CL!! She would actually squeal when Sister Momma would take it out of the closet for her to wear. PRICELESS!! The runner-up outfit was her Hide and Seek Tunic and Playtime Leggings, but since that didn’t make an appearance until the end of the year, it was at a disadvantage.
For LG: Those easy-peasy bubble sacques made from store bought onesies and a little fabric…. Let’s just say, diaper accessibility reigns supreme!!
As for 2015? We hope to continue adding TEXTURE to our creations….in a multitude of facets….sharing with you as we try some new techniques, and broadening our skill set in the process!
But above everything else, we look forward to continuing our blogging friendship with all of you!! We enjoy reading your comments, receiving emails from you, seeing your creations, hearing your stories, and following along as your children grow through these years…
What a great year! I am excited to see what you ladies do with texture this year, especially since you have done some pretty fabulous textures already… like that skirt for CL!
Well, we’ve yet to develop a full-fledged “plan” {and we love our plans :)}, but are excited about the year as well!
Wow! That means it’s already one year since we “found” you. And we’re wondering about the next Flip This Pattern? I mean, January is already 4 days old!!!
We are so glad you are excited about the next season of Flip this Pattern!! And, yes….hard to believe it was a year ago when our paths crossed…
I have adored watching those beautiful girls grow and wear your divine clothing
Thanks, Nicole!
2014 has been a prolific sewing year for y’all. Can’t wait to see what you do in 2015. Happy New Year!
Maybe some knits?? With the help of your fantastic suggestions…of course :).
You have had a busy year too! Those precious girls make each garment all the more adorable. Great job. What I find amazing is you both have jobs on top of all you accomplish. What is my excuse? I can’t wait to see what 2015 brings.
Like I mentioned before – your projects are INTENSE!! We hope you have a fantastic 2015 as well….
I think you guys should start getting a kick back from Oliver & s…you showcase the patterns so well and you give such raving reviews. It’s so fun to see all your lovely creations in one recap! What a year!
Yes….what a year! We knew we’d be glad we recapped, but were being extremely lazy in doing so!! Hope you are settling into your new home – what a year for you as well…
You have made so many beautiful things this year! I love the details you add to everything, and obvious care you take with each garment.
Thanks, Charity! You are always so sweet to comment and encourage us along the way…
That you sew so much and so thoughtfully is just amazing. I really admire your sewing skills and the elegance of everything you made this year. I’m delighted that CLs Pantone outfit was well received and is just so incredibly cute and stylish.
Awww, thanks! And, yes, CL STILL requests that outfit – we got “facetime” this past week….and her Bimaa was still being put to good use (we are still in awe that she can still wear it!). *Note to selves: MUST. MAKE. LEG. WARMERS. AGAIN. SOON!!!
Such beautiful work!! Yall are so amazing with all your clothes you make for the girls! I’m sure Sister Mama just adores her amazing sisters!!!
Way to throw in a “y’all”….. :). Sister Mama is SOOOOO EASY GOING, and accepting of any/everything we send her way for the girls! It’s nice to have such an easy “client”. It’s the nieces that we are going to have to worry about as they get older.
I’m so late catching up with my blog reader, but in my defense I remember each of the outfits presented in this recap.
So many gorgeous inspiration!! Can’t wait to see what 2015 will bring, although, I’m tempted to guess you’ll certainly continue to marvel us with your creations 😉
