“Fall Fabric” 2014 {volume I}

Each Fall, the search is on for ONE THING: “Fall Fabric”

Oliver + S, Hide and Seek

Yep…..that “subtle fabric” that can “blend” into some perfect collegiate football attire, without screaming – “That’s a _____________ {insert blank} football fan!”

Paired with the fact our brother-in-law cheers for the in-state rival, we have to be STEALTH.

Oliver + S, Hide and Seek

UNDERCOVER.

Oliver + S, Hide and Seek

SECRETIVE.

We claim, “we sew….we choose.” And, thankfully, our nieces look GOOD in navy!

Oliver + S, Hide and Seek

This year, after much looking, we found the perfect fabric at Girl Charlee.

Ummmmm, scratch that……. the ALMOST perfect fabric…..

Oliver + S, Hide and Seek

You see, it was in KNIT!!! *Insert audible gasp here….

While we’d like to hold a “claim to fame” with sewing knits, we just don’t….plain and simple.

Oliver + S, Hide and Seek

Still, a perfect fabric NEEDS to be sewn. So, sew we did….pairing it with a navy corduroy to complete the look!

We used the Oliver and S, Playtime Leggings {sz 2} and paired it with an Oliver and S, Hide and Seek Tunic {sz 18 – 24 mo}. This was our first time to sew the Hide and Seek Tunic, but definitely not our last…

Oliver + S, Hide and Seek

We interfaced the “perfect KNIT fall fabric” to create piping, sleeve cuffs, and covered buttons.

The argyle-esque leggings CRACK. US. UP!  Luckily, CL can completely rock the look and pull off such a bold statement!

Oliver + S, Hide and Seek

So, it’s a little “louder” than we typically sew….but “fall fabric” has no bounds.

As for the big sister?? She has her own special outfit using the “fall fabric” that we’ll share in the days to come…. The verdict is still out if she likes it as much as CL did hers!!

Oliver + S, Hide and Seek

*And, psst…we used another Oliver and S pattern not previously sewn by us on EA’s creation. Any guesses??

LOVE this outfit!!! Absolutely adorable. These leggings are perfect. I think I need some giant plaid knit…

Seriously!! But, neither of us could pull off those leggings without creating some interesting glances….

Well, we felt we were in the running for the Girl Charlee buffalo plaid fabric challenge until now! But great minds think alike, because we chose that very fabric, and posted about it today! (http://skirtfixation.com/2014/11/buffalo-plaid-reversible-jacket/) We failed to use and Oliver + S pattern though…
Seriously, we love your look!

HA!! We understood the contest to be “luck of the draw”…..so we all stand an equal chance {although the technicality of yours beats ours – hands down }.

Aaaaahhhh, anything looks amazing on your nieces – they are so lovely :)
Second the “perfect” knit – looks so great to sew with.
Not quite sure about the third Oliver+S pattern (felt bow?)

my guess is the fairy tale dress… or could it be the art museum pattern?

Two good guesses…..neither of which we’ve sewn! But, neither are correct either….

It is just lovely. I am not brave with knits but my big girls want to wear them.

We wouldn’t consider ourselves brave either….and don’t sew with them as often as our sister would like for us to…

I love your Lit’l Engine that Could attitude with knits! Way to keep tackling them. And CL totally rocks the look! Perfect “Fall” wear! Are there really Olive & S patterns that you haven’t sewn….

I love it! Wondering if you’ll be sewing more knits in the future now!

EA’s outfit used knit….but we forgot to add length to it, so CL has inherited it as well :)!! We are TRYING to ‘master’ knits {and can completely see their benefits}…so, maybe one day we’ll get there!

This outfit makes my heart go pitter pat.:) Adorable! Great idea to interface the knit when combining it with the woven. That print makes a great contrast!

Thanks! We are kind of “in love” with those leggings! Too bad we can’t pull off a similar look of our own!!
