Time and time again, we are asked…”Does your sister sew?”
The short answer: YES….
…..and NO…..
She smocks.
“Sister Momma” learned the same way we did….with our hands.
No machine….just hand-stitching at its finest.
She made this lovely creation YEARS ago….prior to marriage….prior to children.
Then, it was tucked away….waiting….patiently, for a sweet child to wear it and call it her own.
And, while she doesn’t find the time to do so now, it is a skill she has….
and, one she enjoys using from time to time….
Although, it may have to wait until grandchildren for her….
All the same, it’s like riding a bike….when you’ve got it, you’ve got it!
Whenever, and whatever, the case might be…
So, YES…she sews.
But, more specifically, she SMOCKS!
So pretty! I learned to quilt by hand before anything else, and I think that hand stitching is the best way to start. It is how I have tried to start off my girls, as well. The call of the machine can be mighty, but the beauty of hand-stitched items is the greatest to me!
Carrie….I had no idea!!! Thanks for sharing your love of hand stitching!!
Stitching talent runs deep in your family!
You’re so clever… :). Love the reference…
That is gorgeous! I don’t have a whole of time for sewing either, and hand-sewing is more time-consuming, so I understand where your sister is at right now. She does lovely smocking though! I hope to have time to learn it at some point. =)
You’ll get it…..in your own time :). It’s a rewarding experience, and not difficult in the slightest. The only drawback is that it takes time.
So beautiful! And so southern! I love seeing your families work because it reminds me of home!
We hope that is a compliment :)….THANKS!!
So sweet! It’s a wonderful skill to have, even if you can only use it from time to time.
Thanks Kathy! Oh, we are sooooo glad we’ve that skill tucked away :)!!
We love to see the smocking – your sister did a beautiful job!
