In early January 2013, we “gifted ourselves” a fabric shopping trip to the small town of Opp, Alabama {and TJs Fabrics}.
It was a “second annual trip” for us, and one we hoped would continue to live on as tradition.
*Ummmm, year 3 didn’t happen, but we hope to be back on track for another visit in January 2015.
Now….when we fabric shop, we like to “purchase with a plan” {although we are finding that more and more difficult to do}.
All planned garments from our first annual trip, save one, had been sewn….so, it was time to prepare for a new season of sewing, thus the second annual trip commenced.
We walked away with several fabric combinations {ALL with plans….some sewn, and others still waiting in the wings}.
Two of our “plans” involved sewing both girls an Oliver and S, Puppet Show Tunic and Shorts for the summer of 2013. And, as the story goes, that didn’t happen!
Still, we had enough fabric to utilize and sew our Puppet Show vision this summer instead.
Initially, we thought we’d like EA’s combination of purchased fabric best.
But, while this creation definitely fits into our style and taste, CL’s Puppet Show {act 2} stole the show in our minds…and, that, you’ll see in the upcoming days!
We sewed EA a size 3T tunic, with size 4 length {due to the way she wears her shorts….low, low, low}. The tunic is roomy, and one she should be able to wear next spring / summer.
We piped the yoke area, as well as the collar. All fabrics were in the neutral, cream / khaki color scheme.
The collar piping and sleeve cuffs were made from the same fabric as the shorts.
The shorts were sewn as a 3T as well – with no modifications. We angled the stripes in various positions of the shorts {leg binding, pockets, and pocket cuffs}.
We love the details in this pattern – it’s got something for everyone, and really steps up quality and workmanship in novice sewists looking to expand their skill set.
Stay tuned for the Puppet Show {act 2} coming to you in the next week or so….then, we’ll let you be the judge on which creation stole the show!
The ensemble is super cute in neutrals!
This one is gorgeous. I love the tone on tone neutrals! I’m very curious to see the next one now.
Finally able to catch up on some blog reading…I love the subtle beauty of this outfit! The patterns of the fabric and the simplicity of the pattern itself just make this one an eye catcher even though it doesn’t scream “Look at me”. It’s been fun catching up!
I love how crisp and simple this one is! The changing angle of the stripes on the shorts is a nice detail. =)
Very sweet! I love the neutral colours. It’s simple and elegant.
Thanks everyone!! We like subtle….and neutral….so this was right down our alley….
