Summer, from Sumo’s Sweet Stuff, is here to give you her “Flipped Creation”
for the Oliver and S, Croquet Dress.
*******************************************************************
Hello! I’m so excited to be able to share my flip with you today of the Croquet Dress by Oliver + S!
I had a few different ideas of how I wanted to flip this pattern, but in the end decided that I wanted to change this pattern into two separate pieces that could be worn together, or independently. I’m all for versatility! Thus, Croquet in Pieces was born!
So the most obvious thing that I changed with the pattern was to not attach the pieces. Let’s start with the bottoms.
I decided to change the skirt into a pair of shorts. I thought these would be nice to have for keeping cool and comfortable for all of our summer play. The fabric is cute, so with minimal effort, I got a darling look for my active daughter.
Now let’s talk about the top. I loved the yoke on the top, and wanted to leave that as is. I did a contrasting fabric to bring out that part of the design. I chose to leave the sleeves off; it has been so hot here lately (and this pregnant mama is dying!) Again, I used a contrasting fabric to do the straps of the top as well. Mixing fabrics is one of my very favorite things to do!
Another part of the original design that I loved was the slit in the back. It is such a simple detail but I just love it.
The last change that I made to the top was to add a border of contrasting fabric along the bottom, and shir it in to give the top more shape. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out!
Now not only do I have a darling pair of shorts, but an adorable top to pair with whatever bottoms I like!
I mean seriously. I’m biased but isn’t she adorable?
The original pattern has a bow that is tied at the waist. I made the tie, but instead of attaching it to the top or shorts, we used it as a hair accessory for all of our looks.
So there you have it. The Croquet in Pieces. Two pieces, three ways to wear them!
Thanks for letting me share my flip with you today. I hope you love it as much as we do!
Well done Summer. Love the bright colours and the fact you can mix and match the outfit.
Love it! What great fabric for turning that into coordinating pieces!
I love those bright fabrics
Very creative way to mix and match!! Besides the fact, your daughter is just way too cute with her new momma-made clothes….
What a fun and versatile version of Croquet! Turned out so cute.
