While the voting continues for your favorite flip this month, we thought we’d share our rendition!
Ummm. . .well. . .of our non-flipped Zonen 09, Charlie.
Of course, since we only have nieces, we ‘flipped’ it for a girl.
Okay, okay…technically, we sewed the pattern ‘as is’ in a pinkish/red color and put it on a girl. . .
We loved the pattern in its original form (which is true of all the patterns we choose) and opted to sew it ‘as is’. Maybe it was adding the seam allowances and working with knits + a collar (which was a combination we’d never attempted), that we felt risky enough…and opted for sticking to the pattern!
While Mr. Knit and I still occasionally talk since our first date (all of your helpful comments really smoothed things over), it isn’t like our relationship is blossoming…
We chose to pair the Charlie, with the Zonen 09, Jacob pants and flip them. So, maybe we aren’t total ‘flip failures’.
It is safe to say that this pair of pants may very well be our favorite Zonen 09 pattern to date. LOVE THEM! They’ve got style with a bit of 70s vibe.
Our major ‘flip’ to the pattern {obviously} was shortening them into a pair of shorts.
Then, we added piping {of course}. If you are faithful follower, you know piping is our ‘go to’ for detailing, but sadly on these shorts it took away from the sleek angles of the pockets.
Finally, we placed an extra pocket on the back {one view has the pocket we placed on the back, positioned on the front}. The pocket flap had to be removed after we piped it….because it ended up looking like a hot dog bun. Seriously. In hindsight, the addition of a pocket on the back of the shorts might not have been the best option with the darts and tucks.
The shorts were an excellent fit on EA, and we can’t wait to sew them again – this time showcasing the angles of the original pattern. Gorgeous.
More importantly, our rising “tennis star” needs another pair to wear to the courts – sooner than our last trip {you can read more about that HERE}!!
EA LOVED the entire outing – from “challenging” her daddy to a tennis match, to watching her very pregnant momma showcase her mad tennis skills! This girl likes to “play the net”…and in a backwards fashion {if you have already deduced from the pictures}.
We are thrilled that our readers introduced us to such a lovely pattern company when the Zonen 09, Charlie was nominated as the June Flip this Pattern, and look forward to sewing many of Sharon’s patterns in the years to come. . .whether we have nephews or not!
Flip this Pattern: Summer 2014 is sponsored by Imagine Gnats and The Fabric Stash. Thank you both for showing such support in the sewing community and this series! We appreciate you!!
The top looks great but those shorts are awesome! You ladies always impress me with your sewing skills and your detailing!
LOVE these shorts & that top is SEW cute w/ them!! BUT………….I think EA could make anything look cute!! Y’all’s sewing skills totally slay me & encourage me to try new things like now I want to make something w/ piping!!
Thanks, Chelle!! You ABSOLUTELY need to try piping, but be warned…it’s addicting!!
I really love this outfit! It is so girly. The Jacob shorts are awesome. Thank you so much for showcasing our patterns!
Thank YOU for joining us!! It’s been a fun month…
I really like how the piping looks on the shorts, but I can understand wanting to retain the sharp angles. =) EA is darling! I love the color of the top too. =)
Love the retro look of the whole outfit! Way to ‘date’ Mr. Knit again…it really is a love/hate relationship for me to this day, so keep at it!
I can’t believe you have a love/hate relationship with Mr. Knit… we may be doomed!!
so so sweet
Gorgeous outfit! I actually really like piping on the shorts… and I just like piping in general
We LOVE piping too {and always look for a place to add it to our outfits}!!!
Actually I think that the way the shorts turned out is perfect for a little girl. The soft and curving pockets are perfect for the girlie version of this outfit. Just adorable as always.

Well, I hadn’t thought about it that way….but it might make it a tad more ‘girly’ now that you mention it!! Thanks!!
Too cute! I love that color on her.:)
I love those shorts! The piping is perfect!
