Bohemian Babydoll Dress {A Review of E&E Patterns}

Have you seen all the Bohemian Babydoll Dress goodness being displayed on the internet lately?!?!

BohemianBabyDollDress1

We have….and had to jump on board as well when Heidi asked us to review her pattern! You see, we aren’t strangers to E&E  patterns, and have loved each and every one we’ve sewn!! That, and Heidi holds a special spot in our hearts….being one of the first “blogging friends” that invited us to be a part of a series — and trusting us to produce a garment worthy of her readers.

Now…back to the Bohemian Babydoll Dress….

BohemianBabyDollDress4

What do we love about this pattern?

BohemianBabyDollDress6

Well, before you even crank up your sewing machine, we love how you can select the size you’d like printed…and only print that particular size. This layering technique is wonderful, and takes some thought right out of pattern preparation!

BohemianBabyDollDress11

1. It is an EASY SEW!! No buttons….no snaps….and no zippers. If that doesn’t put a smile on your face, we don’t know what will!

BohemianBabyDollDress10

2. The lines of the pattern – the slightly curved yoke, mirroring the neckline….and even the hi-lo hemline! Believe it or not, we aren’t really hi-lo kind of girls….BUT, this pattern dips just enough to show the awesome coordinating hem facing underneath.

BohemianBabyDollDress7

3. The sleeves. Okay, okay….technically, you can sew this pattern without sleeves. However, we’ve completely fallen in love with flutter sleeves recently {sewing 3 garments back to back with them}!!

BohemianBabyDollDress9

We love how the contrasting fabric peeks out ever so slightly under the sleeve to add another dimension to the dress – and we found another way to incorporate piping by adding it on the outer edge…again, adding another small detail to the garment.

BohemianBabyDollDress5

Since there are no closures to this dress, it gives our 3 year old niece the independence she wants when dressing herself – making a happy child AND mother in the process!!

BohemianBabyDollDress8

Top that off with our selected fabric being a big hit for EA as well….especially since we aren’t necessarily known for sewing with such bright/fun colors! This dress has become “the rainbow sprinkle dress” in her mind, and she eagerly puts it on when given the chance. That’s saying A LOT for a very opinionated 3 year old…

BohemianBabyDollDress3

We are looking forward to this dress becoming a well-loved, and much-worn dress in our niece’s closet and then it eventually becoming a staple garment in her sisters’ wardrobe rotations as well in the years to come.

BohemianBabyDollDress2

Pat yourself on the back, Heidi….Pat yourself on the back!! It’s a winner for us!!

You ladies are the piping queens! I love how you always find the perfect spot to add that great detail. I can completely agree with EA that this is a favorite – in fact Arden is wearing hers on this very day!

This is beautiful! I love this pattern and had not thought to do piping, which I now will. Was just making bubble pocket shorts this afternoon and thinking the same thing about how great Heidi’s patterns are.

Also, random but, are you in Destin by any chance? We always stay at the same condos in Destin and it looks exactly like this. Although I’m sure that there are many places in the US with ponds by condos by golf courses, but I just have so many pics in a nearly identical spot. :)

WOW! Good eyes! Yes….we were vacationing in the Destin area when we took these photos. I bet it is the same location as you vacation :). Nothing like it!!

That is such a happy dress! I’m not a fan of high-low hems either, but I do like that you can see the pretty hem facing. I love the piping!

Yes….it is completely subtle enough for us to like the style :).
