Anyone think you had seen the girls’ Easter attire already?? Technically, you have….for one, but it might not be who you might originally have thought. CL’s Easter dress had previously made a blog appearance. It’s a dress with a story in and of itself…..
While a few recent garments for EA {as seen here and here} could have been mistaken as an Easter dress, we actually had something else in mind this year!
We were giddy…..as luck would have it, a newly sewn Easter dress wasn’t necessary for either niece this year {and yes, we knew this phenomenal fact approximately a year ago}!! How did such a fate fall on us?!?!? Well, it wasn’t without a HUGE labor of love…..only it was years prior to EA’s birth!!
You see, when “Sister Momma” announced her upcoming marriage, the search began for the perfect wedding attire for all participants – old and young. Unfortunately {well…..fortunately, now}, an appropriate flower girl dress wasn’t available.
Ashley {frances} decided she would just sew one to everyone’s liking…..for a precious three year old recipient’s debut as a flower girl. The beautiful child wore the dress, and her mom lovingly returned it – in pristine condition – to be stored away……
Stored it was…..for many years. Until another precious 3 year old could wear it. EA loves that she can wear a dress from her momma’s wedding day {as seen in the photo below}.
We think it is pretty special!
Since the dress hadn’t recently been completed, we were less stressed during the photo shoot {note: child on dirty ground, in beautiful white dress….one week before Easter}.
The pattern used was Chery Williams’ “The Child’s Wedding Ring Dress”, view A {with slight modifications to the hem and additional embroidery}.
What was the best part of the photo shoot??? The twirl factor? The princess effect? Nope….neither.
Being barefoot. Pure and simple.
That little detail kicked someone in gear for photos….that, and she was trying to beat her Granddaddy in getting dinner off the grill.
While she wasn’t a fan of the “beauty bar” closures {“I wish this dress had buttons!”}, she was the picture of patience as her Grandmomma and Ashley worked on closing the back of the dress.
And since this dress left us all in smiles, we are looking forward to continuing those smiles over many more wearings of it in the future – for EA, CL, and Little Baby.
The girls enjoyed their Easter dresses on the big day…..and if you have forgotten the story behind CL’s {or just want to read it again}, you can read more about it here.
HAPPY EASTER, EVERYONE!
Beautiful story and dress. Nostalgia gets me every time!
I thought the dress was beautiful before, the store makes it even more beautiful.
So wonderful to see these dresses again, particularly the youngest’s. Obviously, a lot of care has been taken to store them so that come up, and out again looking so good. Special note: how generous of the original flower girl’s mother to return the dress. Not sure that I could have been so noble given the dress’ beauty. Hope it was a happy Easter for all.
I love the dress and the story behind it… and what darling little nieces you have. =)Their momma is a lovely lady as well.
So precious! My youngest wore the flower girl dress from her brothers wedding & a grand daughter wore the same bishop from as&e that your neice is wearing
. It had been her aunts first birthday portrait dress. Love dresses with lots of love and family history.
The dress and the story behind it are so sweet! How nice that the dress will be able to be passed down through the sisters.:)
These dresses are SO beautiful! (I spy a formal southern flower girl dress. Maybe I’ll have an occasion to sew one someday …. LOL.)
You’ve officially inspired me to take a smocking/embroidery project with me on vacation in June. Maybe the beach will relax me enough to finish it.
Darling. And the details are lovely. I’d love to see you join us at the Inspire Us Thursday link party on The Inspired Wren.
