We are pleased and privileged to be taking part in Frances Suzanne’s Flip This Pattern Series today. April’s pattern is Heidi and Finn’s Colorblock Dress. With Easter being this month, we are excited to be thinking and planning for spring, and this is a perfect opportunity.
M is cresting into a size 3, so she has a need for all new spring and summer clothing. We wanted something fun and easy to wear. We decided to turn this into a jumpsuit. Jumpsuits are coming back into fashion, and showing up in the trends again this year.
We chose shades of orchid, which is happens to be the Pantone Color of the year. It also fits with M’s idea of anything purple or pink is fine to wear!
We left the top bodice section as designed. Then measuring M and deciding where we wanted the waist to fall, we shortened the middle section tapering it to fit her waist measurement. We drafted a straight leg trouser, to match her measurements. This enabled us to build the rise and length of the leg to fit her measurements. She is tall and most of the time a 3 needs to be lengthened although she is narrow, so her waist measurements are not quite a 3.
To add a little interest we attached a tie at each side seam. This allows it to be tied in the front or the back.
We visited a local art museum to try and enjoy a few rays of sun, here in the Midwest we’re still only dreaming of Spring! She had a fun time checking out the drawing benches and investigating the plants. Much more important than posing for pictures 😉
Because she will need to step into the jumpsuit, we left it open to the waist. This will make getting in and out easier. It closes well at the back, so no worries about wearing a shirt under. We could add a t-shirt during the cool early spring if we would like to and give this more of a layered look. We love the buttons at the back! They were an amazing find at 10 cents apiece at the fabric warehouse. It took some diving through the button bins, but we sacrificed.
Now we just need the snow to stop in the Midwest and all the ice to melt and we will be ready for the warm weather! Thanks for having us Frances Suzanne and for the great pattern Heidi and Finn!

I love this jumpsuit! It reminds me a little bit of a bitty Rosie The Riveter:) so sweet!
She’s so cute!:) The jumpsuit was a great idea for the flip. I love the different shades of orchid and the monogram on the bodice.
